Manchester United finalized a deal yesterday to sign Owen Hargreaves from Bayern Munich.
The 26-year-old England midfielder will sign a five-year contract with the Premier League champions on July 1 when he returns from vacation, completing a long-expected transfer.
The Canadian-born Hargreaves, who was England fans' player of the year last year, has passed a medical examination and agreed to contract terms, United said.
United did not announce the fee, although English newspapers suggested it would be about ?17 million (US$33.6 million).
Hargreaves had been pleading with Bayern executives all season to let him go to United during a disappointing year for him and the club, who relinquished their Bundesliga title and finished fourth.
Confirmation that Hargreaves, who joined Bayern as a 16-year-old, would move to United came a day after the club said it had agreed "terms in principle" to sign Portuguese winger Nani from Sporting Lisbon and Porto's Brazilian playmaker Anderson.
