Tiger Woods scrambled to salvage his hopes for a third consecutive major title here on Friday while an unlikely group of leaders struggled to stay under par in the second round of the 71st Masters.
Top-ranked Woods found the water twice while rescuing two bogeys and a par at Amen Corner, Augusta National Golf Club's dreaded three-hole stretch from 11 to 13, on his way to a two-over-par 74 to stand at three-over 147.
"I turned a 90 into a 74," Woods said.
South African Tim Clark and US newcomer Brett Wetterich shared the lead on two-under par 142, one stroke ahead of hometown favorite son Vaughn Taylor.
Clark holed a putt from off the 18th green for a 71. Wetterich had a 73, Taylor a 72.
But thanks to his hallelujah heroics at Amen Corner, Woods shares 15th place and has the leaders right where he wants them, even though he has never trailed so many so late and won here.
