Winthrop upsets Notre Dame in first round

Center Craig Bradshaw scored 24 points and Torrell Martin added 20 and a career-high 11 rebounds as Winthrop University beat Notre Dame 74-64 on Friday in the first round of the US college basketball championship tournament.
Winthrop, which had been 0-6 in previous tournament appearances, blew all of its 20-point lead in the second half before surging in the final two minutes to end Notre Dame's first NCAA appearance since 2003.
Winthrop faces Oregon in the second round.
Oregon 58, Miami (Ohio) 56
In Spokane, Washington, Aaron Brooks scored 18 points and the third-seeded Ducks moved into the second round for the first time since 2002.
The pesky RedHawks (18-15) had a chance to tie it late, but Michael Bramos' 3-point attempt bounced off the front of the rim.
UNLV 67, Georgia Tech 63
In Chicago, Michael Umeh and Wendell White had 16 points apiece and UNLV won an NCAA tournament game for the first time in 16 years.
The last time the Runnin' Rebels won was under Jerry Tarkanian in 1991. Now under coach Lon Kruger, UNLV (29-6) won its eighth in a row.
Wisconsin 76, Texas A&M-C.C. 63
In Chicago, Wisconsin overcame an 18-point deficit to advance past the 15th-seeded Islanders.
Kammron Taylor, scoreless at the break, finished with 24 points for the Badgers (30-5). Wisconsin clamped down defensively on the Islanders, who began playing basketball in the 1999-2000 season.
Purdue 72, Arizona 63
In New Orleans, Carl Landry had 21 points and 13 rebounds to help Purdue advance to the second round for the first time since 2003.
Chris Kramer added 16 points for the Boilermakers (22-11), who will play Florida.
Florida 112, Jackson State 69
At New Orleans, the top-seeded Gators (30-5) responded from a lackluster first half with the best half in school history and routed Jackson State (21-14).
Corey Brewer led the defending national champions with 21 points, and Joakim Noah had 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Texas 79, New Mexico St 67
In Spokane, Washington, Kevin Durant had 27 points and eight rebounds to lead fourth-seeded Texas into the second round.
D.J. Augustin had 19 points and seven assists for the Longhorns (25-9), who will play Southern California.
Southern Cal 77, Arkansas 60
In Spokane, Taj Gibson finished with 18 points and eight rebounds to power the USC Trojans over Arkansas (21-14).
Nick Young added 20 points for the Trojans (24-11), who won in their first appearance in the tournament since 2002.
Virginia Tech 54, Illinois 52
In Columbus, Ohio, Virginia Tech won on Deron Washington's banked runner in the final minute after trailing by as many as 13.
Washington 14 points for the Hokies (24-11), who will play against Southern Illinois in the second round.
S Illinois 61, Holy Cross 51
In Columbus, reserve forward Tony Boyle scored a career-high 14 points in the second half as Southern Illinois (28-6) matched its school record for wins.
Holy Cross (25-9), the national champion in 1947, has lost nine straight tournament games dating to 1953.
Kansas 107, Niagara 67
In Chicago, Mario Chalmers led Kansas -- making its 18th straight and 36th overall appearance in the NCAA tournament -- with 19 points.
The Jayhawks (31-4) were too fast, too deep and too talented for the Purple Eagles.
Kentucky 67, Villanova 58
In Chicago, Randolph Morris finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds and eighth-seeded Kentucky surged in the second half to beat Villanova.
Kentucky advanced to the second round for the 16th straight year.
Virginia 84, Albany 57
In Columbus, Ohio, J.R. Reynolds scored 28 points and Virginia got its first tournament win since 1995, when it reached the final eight.
Sean Singletary added 23 points and nine assists for the fourth-seeded Cavaliers (21-10).
Tennessee 121, Long Beach St 86
In Columbus, Tennessee had five players score in double figures as it matched the most points in a first-round game.
Chris Lofton scored 25 points and Dane Bradshaw had 11 assists for the Volunteers (23-10).
Memphis 73, North Texas 58
In New Orleans, Chris Douglas-Roberts had 16 points and Memphis extended its winning streak to 23 games.
Robert Dozier had 11 points and seven rebounds and Joey Dorsey had nine points and 15 rebounds for the Tigers (31-3), who overcame a slow start to grab control late in the first half.
Nevada 77, Creighton 71, OT
In New Orleans, Marcelus Kemp saved seventh-seeded Nevada from another early exit in the NCAA tournament.
With Wolf Pack star Nick Fazekas off his game, Kemp capped a 27-point performance with nine points in overtime.
