Luo Hsin-liang proves to be a natural winner of SBL award

Rallying Taiwan Beer to a pair of comeback wins over the weekend earned Luo "the Natural" Hsin-liang the Super Basketball League's Player of the Week honor this week.

The veteran shooting guard scored 19 points in each of his side's wins last week with several clutch three's late in the game to carry his team past a tough Bank of Taiwan side and the Dacin Tigers by a combined winning margin of five points.

"Luo is the reason why we are doing as well as we are right now," a proud Taiwan Beer skipper Yen Jia-hua said after learning of his top offseason acquisition's selection for the weekly award.

"The Natural" has rewarded Yen for bringing him to Taiwan Beer during the offseason to lead an often inconsistent squad that has had a tendency to under-perform over the past three seasons.

    Modest

"I didn't think I was going to win it [Player of the Week] because there were two or three other guys who were probably more deserving than me," a modest Luo said in an interview.

Luo just beat out Jonathan Sanders of the Videoland Hunters by a point in the narrowest voting result in four years, topping the US forward who won the weekly award the previous week for his great all-around performances over a three-game span.

Luo and his teammates will have their hands full this weekend with back-to-back matches starting with tomorrow afternoon's game versus the Hunters followed by Sunday night's primetime showdown against defending champs, the Yulon Dinos.

A win over the undefeated Hunters would leave Taiwan Beer tying for first-place with their opponents.?

    Priority

While containing Sanders will be priority number one for Taiwan Beer, the key to victory will be which team can control the glass at both ends of the court.?

The Hunters have outrebounded their opponents by a whopping 11.8 rebounds-per-game and will continue to exploit the rest of the league until someone can do a better job boxing out their frontcourt trio of Sanders, Lai Guo-hong and Lee Chi-yi.
