Dwyane Wade scored 33 points, including a game-saving layup with 4.3 seconds left, as the Miami Heat wasted most of a big lead before beating the short-handed Indiana Pacers 104-101 on Thursday night.
Jason Williams added 20 points and eight assists for the Heat, who led 91-75 with 8:05 left before the Pacers -- who had only 10 players in uniform -- got within two by going on a 23-9 run.
But Wade hit a pair of free throws with 24.5 seconds left, then drove the length of the court for the winning score.

Danny Granger had a career-high 28 points on 9-of-15 shooting for Indiana, but came up short on a potential, game-tying 3-point try as the final buzzer sounded.
The Heat were playing without Shaquille O'Neal for the 32nd straight game while he continues his recovery from knee surgery. He was not scheduled to play in Philadelphia yesterday, either, but his return is expected soon.
Marquis Daniels had a season-high 23 points for the Pacers.
Mavericks 114, Lakers 95
At Dallas, Josh Howard scored 29 points and Dirk Nowitzki had 27 as Dallas avenged its only loss over the past six weeks with a victory over Los Angeles.
Dallas has won 19 of 20 games and six in a row since a 101-98 loss in Los Angeles on Jan. 7 that ended a 13-game winning streak.
After the Mavericks started 0-4 for the first time in team history, the defending Western Conference champions reached the midpoint of the regular season with the NBA's best record (33-8).
Jason Terry had a season-high 13 assists, with one early in the second quarter coming when he missed underneath, got his own rebound and swiped the ball in one motion to Nowitzki at the top of the key for a 3-pointer. That basket put the Mavs up 32-30 and they never trailed again.
Kobe Bryant had 26 points for the Lakers, whose three-game winning streak included a 100-96 victory at San Antonio on Wednesday night. Even though Bryant scored 13 points in the third quarter, that was when Dallas took control.
Howard and Nowitzki led six players in double-figure scoring for Dallas, which got 14 from Devean George, 12 from Terry and 11 each from Jerry Stackhouse and Buckner.
US track and field athletes have about four dozen pieces to choose from when assembling their uniforms at the Olympics. The one grabbing the most attention is a high-cut leotard that barely covers the bikini line and has triggered debate between those who think it is sexist and others who say they do not need the Internet to make sure they have good uniforms. Among those critical or laughing at the uniforms included Paralympian Femita Ayanbeku, sprinter Britton Wilson and even athletes from other countries such as Britain’s Abigail Irozuru, who wrote on social media: “Was ANY female athlete consulted in
Four-time NBA all-star DeMarcus Cousins arrived in Taiwan with his family early yesterday to finish his renewed contract with the Taiwan Beer Leopards in the T1 League. Cousins initially played a four-game contract with the Leopards in January. On March 18, the Taoyuan-based team announced that Cousins had renewed his contract. “Hi what’s up Leopard fans, I’m back. Former US Masters champion Zach Johnson was left embarrassed after a foul-mouthed response to ironic cheers from spectators after a triple bogey at Augusta National on Friday. Johnson, the 2007 Masters winner, missed the cut after his three-over-par round of 75 left him on seven-over 151 for 36 holes, his six on the par-three 12th playing a big role in his downfall. Television footage showed Johnson reacting to sarcastic cheers and applause when he tapped in for the triple bogey by yelling: “Oh fuck off.” Such a response would be considered bad form in any golf tournament, but is particularly out of keeping
Taiwan’s Lee Jhe-huei and Yang Po-hsuan on Saturday won the men’s doubles bronze medal at the Badminton Asia Championships in Ningbo, China, after they were bested by the hosts in their semi-final. The Taiwanese shuttlers lost to China’s Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang, who advanced to yesterday’s final against Malaysia’s Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzudin. The Chinese pair outplayed Lee and Yang in straight games. Although the Taiwanese got off to a slow start in the first game, they eventually tied it 14-14, before Liang and Wang went on to blow past them to win 21-17. In the second game, Lee and
