Thoefanis Gekas' 45th-minute goal led VfL Bochum to a 2-0 win over Borussia Moenchengladbach and extended the latter's winless streak to 10 matches in Bundesliga soccer on Friday.
Moenchengladbach forward Kahe conceded an own in the 86th minute.
Gekas scored his seventh goal of the season when he jumped on a poor pass by defender Tobias Levels, and chipped a long shot over Moenchengladbach's American goalkeeper Kasey Keller, who was caught off his line.
"We never recovered from the goal just before the half-time break," Moenchengladbach coach Jupp Heynckes said. "Everything is going wrong for us at the moment and the way we played in the second half, we deserved to lose."
Bochum rose above the relegation zone to 14th place with its third straight home win.
Moenchengladbach fell to 16th in the 18-team standings. They have 15 points from 17 matches.
Werder Bremen will battle it out with Schalke 04 and VfB Stuttgart for the title of winter champions at the weekend.
