NBAGilbert Arenas poured in 38 points and Antawn Jamison and Etan Thomas chipped in with double-doubles to help the Washington Wizards snap the Dallas Mavericks' 12-game win streak with a 106-97 victory on Monday.
After opening the season with four straight losses, the Mavericks had been unstoppable, reeling off 12 straight wins, including a 107-80 demolition of Wizards on Nov. 21.
The Wizards avenged their worst loss of the season by claiming their first win over Dallas in seven meetings, leaving the Mavericks two games shy of equalling their franchise record unbeaten run of 14 games.
Washington received double-digit efforts from all five starters, Jamison hitting for 20 points and 12 rebounds and Thomas 10 points and 11 boards.
Caron Butler flirted with a triple-double, contributing 14 points, nine rebounds and seven assists as the Wizards improved to 7-2 at home.
"Our energy was up," Butler said. "We executed our offense and we were successful."
"I was trying to do everything. Trying to get off the ball, run the offense, and use my versatility as my strength. I wasn't trying to force anything," he said.
"Good things happened. My teammates were making shots. It was just a great win," he said.
Dirk Nowitzki paced the Mavericks with 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Jerry Stackhouse, Devean George and Devin Harris each had 14 in the loss.
The Wizards took a commanding 88-66 lead after three quarters but the Mavericks rallied in the fourth, slicing the deficit to 102-95 with just over a minute to play.
But the Mavericks could not complete the comeback as the Wizards held on to register their third win in four games.

Revelations of positive doping tests for nearly two dozen Chinese swimmers that went unpunished sparked an intense flurry of accusations and legal threats between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the head of the US drug-fighting organization, who has long been one of WADA’s fiercest critics. WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The
