A crucial 2-0 win over historic rivals Barcelona on Sunday took Real Madrid up to fourth in a crowded top field in "La Liga."
The victory leaves Real just two points behind Barca, who are now looking shaky after losing in both Madrid and London -- a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Champion's League -- in the space of four days.
The European champions remain top in Spain but now only on goal difference over Valencia, who on Sunday beat Osasuna 1-0 at home.
Barca and Valencia both have 16 points from seven games.
In third place now, on 15 points, are Sevilla, 2-1 winners over lowly Gimnastic Tarragona.
Real are now fourth on 14 points -- the same number as Deportivo Coruna -- after goals from strikers Raul Gonzalez and Ruud Van Nistelrooy gave them a memorable win in rainy Madrid.
