Mats Sundin scored his 500th NHL goal, beating Miikka Kiprusoff with a long shot 50 seconds into overtime to complete a hat trick and give the Toronto Maple Leafs a 5-4 victory over Calgary on Saturday night.
After the short-handed goal, the Swedish star's teammates banged their sticks to ice to honor the accomplishment and the fans erupted in cheers when it was announced.
Sundin added an assist for the Maple Leafs, who have played four straight overtime games. Darcy Tucker and Alex Steen also scored for the Maple Leafs, who rallied after blowing a two-goal lead.
Mark Giordano scored two of the Flames' season-high four goals. Matthew Lombardi and Daymond Langkow added the others.

At Washington, Ilya Kovalchuk scored in overtime to end his longest goal drought at the start of a season and Atlanta spoiled "Alex Ovechkin Tribute Night" by beating the Capitals. Kovalchuk's winner came on a breakaway 3:02 into the extra period.

At Uniondale, New York, Mike Dunham, filling in for injured goalie Rick DiPietro, stopped 31 shots to help the Islanders beat the Bruins. Jason Blake scored twice and made a gorgeous pass to assist on another goal for the Islanders.
Sabres 7, Rangers 4
At Buffalo, New York, Chris Drury had his first career three-goal game and also added an assist to help the Sabres win their fifth consecutive game. The game was played despite the region still recovering from a crippling snow storm.
Senators 3, Canadiens 2, SO
At Montreal, Antoine Vermette and Mike Fisher scored in the shootout to help the Ottawa Senators end their three-game losing streak with a win over the Canadiens. After Vermette opened the shootout with a backhand through Cristobal Huet's pads, Fisher scored to seal the win.
Lightning 4, Panthers 1
At Tampa, Florida, Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis scored rare Tampa Bay power-play goals, helping the Lightning stop a three-game losing streak with a victory over the Panthers. The Lightning entered the game 1-for-26 with the man advantage.

At East Rutherford, New Jersey, Brian Gionta broke a tie early in the third period and Martin Brodeur made 25 saves to lead New Jersey over Philadelphia. Zach Parise and Jamie Langenbrunner also scored for the Devils.

At Pittsburgh, Eric Staal got Carolina's go-ahead goal early in the game to win his personal matchup with younger brother Jordan Staal and the Hurricanes overcame a second scary injury in Pittsburgh in seven months to beat the Penguins.

At St. Louis, Radek Dvorak scored the tie-breaking goal in the third period and added an assist to help the Blues beat the Blackhawks. Dvorak broke a 3-3 tie with 6:18 left in the third period when he took a pass from Petr Cajanek and beat Chicago goalie Brian Boucher.
Predators 4, Coyotes 1
At Nashville, Tennessee, Scott Hartnell and Paul Kariya each scored a goal to help the Predators beat the Coyotes. It was the first victory of the season for the Predators. The Coyotes have lost four games in a row.

At St. Paul, Minnesota, Brian Rolston scored two goals and had an assist to help Minnesota remain unbeaten with a win over the Columbus. Manny Fernandez had 24 saves for his first shutout of the season for the Wild (5-0-0), who are off to the best start in franchise history.

At Los Angeles, Brenden Morrow scored twice on power plays and Stephane Robidas had three assists, leading Dallas over the Kings. The Stars' 4-0 start is the second-best in the franchise's 40-year history.

At Denver, Petr Sykora and Ryan Smyth each scored twice and Edmonton cracked Colorado's stellar special teams defense. Smyth deflected Jason Smith's shot from the right point past Jose Theodore for his second goal, breaking a 2-2 tie just 20 seconds into the third period.
