Cathy Freeman to marry
Sydney Olympics gold medalist Cathy Freeman said on Thursday she is engaged to be married to a Melbourne stockbroker. Freeman, who won the 400m race at Sydney's Olympic stadium after lighting the flame at the 2000 opening ceremonies, is expected to marry James Murch, her boyfriend of about six months, sometime late next year. It will Freeman's second marriage -- she split from US sports company executive Alexander Bodecker in 2003. Freeman also dated Australian actor Joel Edgerton after her four-year marriage to Bodecker ended.

Romario turns out for Tupi
Veteran star Romario practiced with minnow Brazilian club Tupi on Wednesday, but the striker's debut with his new club was still uncertain because of a missed transfer deadline. Tupi FC, which earned promotion to the first division of the Minas Gerais state championship, signed the 40-year-old Romario on Monday, but the Brazilian soccer confederation refused to register the player.
