The Seattle Mariners placed South Korean right-hander Baek Cha-seung on the 60-day disabled list on Monday with tendinitis in the triceps muscle.
Seattle called up Mexican right-hander Jorge Campillo from Triple-A Tacoma to take Baek's roster spot. Campillo was available to pitch for Monday's series opener against Oakland.
Baek pitched well in his month with the Mariners, making a strong bid for next year's rotation. Called up on Aug. 22, Baek was 4-1 with a 3.67 ERA in six starts.
He pitched seven shutout innings against Texas on Sept. 8 and threw another 6 2-3 strong innings, allowing two runs and four hits in a 6-3 win over the Rangers last Wednesday.
Baek was expected to throw on Monday, but Cesar Jimenez made his first big-league start in his place.
Manager Mike Hargrove said that he didn't believe Baek's injury to be serious and that it was more a result of him pitching 181 1/3 innings for Tacoma and Seattle.
"He had tightness in his shoulder, his triceps and his elbow and I think it's just a matter of a long season," Hargrove said. "I don't think it's anything bad."
Campillo had ligament surgery on Sept. 23 last year. He completed a rehabilitation stint with the Mariners' rookie team last month.
