Freddy Adu scored on a free kick, but Chris Klein responded with a second-half goal Saturday to lift Real Salt Lake to a 1-1 tie with D.C. United.
League-leading scorer Jeff Cunningham added his 10th assist on Klein's goal, making him the ninth player in league history to contribute 15 goals and 10 assists in a season.
Real Salt Lake, which entered the day two points out of the Western Conference playoffs, is 1-2-1 in its last four matches after enjoying a four-game win streak from late July to mid-last month.
United, which had only two shots on goal despite enjoying the majority of possession, is now 1-2-4 in its last seven, but has already clinched an Eastern Conference berth.
In other matches, the New England Revolution edged the New York Red Bulls 1-0, the Chicago fire beat the Columbus crew 2-1, the Kansas City Wizards downed the Colorado Rapids 4-1 and Chivas USA played out a 1-1 draw with FC Dallas.
Patrick Noonan's first goal of the season gave the Revolution a victory over New York.

Nate Jaqua and C.J. Brown scored goals at Columbus, Ohio to help the Fire beat the Crew.
Jaqua stepped into a low crossing pass from Justin Mapp and banked the ball off the inside of the right goalpost for his seventh goal of the year in the 40th minute.
The Fire doubled their lead in first half stoppage time when Brown scored his first goal in 201 league games by getting his head on a looping pass from Chris Armas, deflecting the ball past Crew goalkeeper Bill Gaudette.
Crew midfielder Sebastian Rozental scored on a penalty kick in the 72nd.

WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The

Rafael Nadal on Wednesday said the upcoming French Open would be the moment to “give everything and die” on the court after his comeback from injury in Barcelona was curtailed by Alex de Minaur. The 22-time Grand Slam title winner, back playing this week after three months on the sidelines, battled well, but eventually crumbled 7-5, 6-1 against the world No. 11 from Australia in the second round. Nadal, 37, who missed virtually all of last season, is hoping to compete at the French Open next month where he is the record 14-time champion. The Spaniard said the clash with De Minaur was
