The Tennessee Titans have signed quarterback Vince Young, the third overall selection in this year's National Football League draft, one day before the start of training camp.
Young, who led the University of Texas to a 13-0 record and the national championship last season as a junior, will compete with Billy Volek for the starting job in training camp.
The Titans also agreed to terms with University of Southern California running back LenDale White, their second-round pick, on Thursday.
"We're pleased to finish up these rookie contracts in time for camp," Titans general manager Floyd Reese said. "This ensures that all rookies can focus on football and improving each day in practice so they can be in a position to contribute to the team."
Young's performance in the Rose Bowl last January against powerful USC with the national championship on the line was one of the greatest in college football history.
He passed for 267 yards and rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns as the Longhorns edged USC, 41-38.
Young had a 30-2 record as a college starter and was a two-time Rose Bowl Most Valuable Player.
Last year, Young became the only Division I player to pass for 3,000 yards and rush for 1,000 in a single season. He completed 65 percent of his passes for 3,036 yards and 26 touchdowns with 10 interceptions and also rushed for 1,050 yards and 12 scores.
Many believed Young was a likely No. 1 overall draft pick for the Houston Texans.
But Young was snubbed by his hometown team as the Texans selected North Carolina State defensive end Mario Williams.
After New Orleans took USC running back Reggie Bush second overall, the Titans selected Young with the third pick.
Williams had already agreed to a contract with Houston before the draft. Bush has yet to sign with the Saints.
