Wu Si-yo held the President Lions to five scattered singles in as many innings and Chen Chin-fong knocked in a pair of runs to lead the La New Bears to a 5-0 shutout win over the Lions in Tainan on Sunday night.
With the Bears leading 5-0, the game was called off by the home plate umpire in the top of the sixth, when the steady drizzle that had started in the third inning suddenly turned into a downpour that halted all plays, handing the visiting Bears the win after five completed innings.
The win by Wu marked his eleventh of the season, tying him with fellow American righty Kenny Rayborn for league's lead in total victories, while dropping his league-best earned run average (ERA) to a miniscule 1.61. His record remained a perfect 11-0 for the year, making him a legitimate contender for the coveted 20-win plateau achieved only by a select few in the league's 17-year history.

"I don't think much about it [the record], as long as I can go out there and help the club win some games," Wu was quoted by the local press as saying in a recent interview.
The game began with the Bears striking first in the top of the second, when Chen led off the inning with a single to center off Lions starter Cheng Bo-ren and scored on Jiang Chih-tsong's groundout to short after Chen had taken third base on a Lions error and a past ball by Lions catcher Kao Chih-kang.
The Bears then made it 3-0 with a two-run third on Shih Chih-wei's run-scoring single over the middle, before Chen scored the third run of the game with a sacrifice fly to deep-center.
The scoreboard read 5-0 in favor of the Bears after the fifth, as the visitors plated two more runs in the inning on consecutive RBI singles by Chen and slugger Pan Chung-wei, before the rain ended the game.
Doing the damage offensively was Chen, whose two RBIs in the game upped his league-leading total to 47 for the year, seven more than Macoto Cobras great Hsieh "The Ugly" Jia-shien's 40 three weeks into the second half of the season.
Also chipping in with two hits in the rain-shortened game were leadoff man Shih and catcher Chen Fong-min, who saw their team rebound from a tough loss to the Lions last Wednesday with back-to-back wins to take the four-game series by a 3-1 margin.

US track and field athletes have about four dozen pieces to choose from when assembling their uniforms at the Olympics. The one grabbing the most attention is a high-cut leotard that barely covers the bikini line and has triggered debate between those who think it is sexist and others who say they do not need the Internet to make sure they have good uniforms. Among those critical or laughing at the uniforms included Paralympian Femita Ayanbeku, sprinter Britton Wilson and even athletes from other countries such as Britain’s Abigail Irozuru, who wrote on social media: “Was ANY female athlete consulted in
Forget Real Madrid, Manchester City or Paris Saint-Germain, the world’s best soccer team — statistically speaking — might be a little-known outfit from the closed central Asian nation of Turkmenistan. Founded last year, Arkadag, named in honor of former Turkmen president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, have been unstoppable, notching up 36 consecutive domestic victories in a run still ongoing. The side have not lost a single competitive match and swept to a league and cup double in their inaugural season — success unthinkable almost anywhere else. However, in Turkmenistan, it could hardly have gone any other way. The energy-rich country is one of the most closed
Former US Masters champion Zach Johnson was left embarrassed after a foul-mouthed response to ironic cheers from spectators after a triple bogey at Augusta National on Friday. Johnson, the 2007 Masters winner, missed the cut after his three-over-par round of 75 left him on seven-over 151 for 36 holes, his six on the par-three 12th playing a big role in his downfall. Television footage showed Johnson reacting to sarcastic cheers and applause when he tapped in for the triple bogey by yelling: “Oh fuck off.” Such a response would be considered bad form in any golf tournament, but is particularly out of keeping
