Wigginton helps Devil Rays beat Red Sox

American LeagueTy Wigginton homered for the third time in two games, connecting off Curt Schilling to snap a seventh-inning tie and help the Tampa Bay Devil Rays beat the Boston Red Sox 9-6 on Tuesday.

Julio Lugo and Jonny Gomes also went deep for Tampa Bay, which hit three homers on Monday to beat Josh Beckett, Boston's other 10-game winner.

Wigginton homered twice off Beckett, and his first-pitch homer leading off the seventh ended a personal five-game winning streak for Schilling (10-3), who allowed four runs and nine hits in seven innings.

The Devil Rays scored five runs off Mike Timlin in the eighth to go ahead 9-3. Boston's Manny Ramirez hit a three-run homer, his 23rd, in the ninth off Shawn Camp, who still earned his fourth save.

Jon Switzer (1-0) pitched 2-3 of an inning in relief for his first major league win.

Boston's David Ortiz hit his 27th homer in the seventh, tying the score 3-all.

White Sox 13, Orioles 0

At Chicago, Jose Contreras easily won his 17th straight decision and Juan Uribe hit a three-run homer and drove in five runs to lead Chicago.

Contreras was 5-0 in his first six starts with a 1.41 ERA, but struggled since returning from the disabled list with a pinched nerve in his right hip. Contreras (9-0) pitched 6 2-3 scoreless innings and allowed six hits and struck out three without a walk.

His last loss came on Aug. 15 against the Twins.

Paul Konerko added a three-run homer in the third inning Uribe was 3-for-5, a triple short of the cycle. He is 11-for-28 in his last eight games with three home runs and 17 RBIs.

Rodrigo Lopez (5-10) gave up nine runs and 10 hits in just 2 2-3 innings.

Xavier Nady hit a go-ahead single in the eighth inning and drove in three runs, rallying the New York Mets past the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-6 on Tuesday.

Billy Wagner earned his 300th save and Jose Reyes had three hits and two stolen bases for the National League East-leading Mets, who won for only the second time in eight games.

David Wright delivered an early two-run single.

All-Star Tom Glavine failed in his bid to become Major League Baseball's first 12-game winner, but his teammates fought back to take him off the hook for what would have been his first loss since April 24.

The Mets trailed 6-4 in the eighth before rallying against ex-Met Roberto Hernandez (0-2).

Duaner Sanchez (5-0) pitched a scoreless eighth for the win, and Wagner got three outs for his 16th save in 20 chances this season.

At Houston, Andy Pettitte pitched six effective innings and Mike Lamb drove in three runs for Houston.
