CPBLSecond-half action opened in Taiwan's Chinese Professional Baseball League on Friday night with the La New Bears easily handling the Brother Elephants in a 5-1 victory in Sinjhuang and the Sinon Bulls rallying for three runs late in the game to top the President Lions 5-3 at Taichung.
La New starter Kenny Rayborn became the league's first 10-win man with eight outstanding innings of work, allowing a run on four hits while fanning four and walking four.
The American right-hander, who also leads the league with his earned run average (ERA) with a miniscule 1.53 mark, shook off a shaky first inning in which he surrendered the lone Elephants run in the game on an infield single and a timely run-scoring double by Chen Guan-ren, and finished off strong by allowing just one more Elephants batter to reach beyond first base over the next seven frames.

Doing the damage at the plate for the Bears were catcher Chen Fong-min and first baseman Pan Chung-wei, both going 2-for-4 on the night with three combined RBIs to champion an attack that scored five unanswered runs off 11 hits against three different Elephants pitchers in the win.
Taking the loss was Elephants starter Joey Dawley of the US, who gave up three runs, two earned, on nine hits over seven decent innings, but fell victim to a punchless offense that could not generate many hits, let alone runs. Shortstop Chen Rei-cheng's 3-for-3 night was the lone highlight for an Elephants lineup that managed only five hits in the contest.
Bulls 5, Lions 3
Huang Chung-yi's game-tying solo blast off Lions reliever Lin Yueh-ping in the bottom of the eighth started what ended up being a three-run inning for the Bulls as they turned a 3-2 deficit into a 5-3 triumph at Taichung on Friday night.
It was the veteran slugger's 98th homer in an illustrious career that includes 1,431 hits and counting, and nine all-league selections from his second-base position to put him two homers shy of the 100-homer, 1,000-hit plateau presently occupied solely by his teammate Chang "Prince of the Forest" Tai-shan (1,070 hits and 168 homers).
After Huang's solo shot off Lin Yueh-ping tied the game at 3-all in the eighth, catcher Yeh Jung-chang would follow with an opposite-field single that scored the go-ahead run for the Bulls before Lin Tsung-nan's run-scoring triple made it 5-3.
The game began with both starters Pan "Du Du" Wei-luen for the Lions and Alfredo Gonzalez of the Bulls breezing through the first two innings before the home hosts drew first blood on outfielder Tseng Hua-wei's RBI groundout in the bottom of the third for a 1-0 lead.
The 1-0 lead for the Bulls lasted less than an inning as the Lions fought back with two runs of their own in the top of the fourth, courtesy of right-fielder Chen Lien-hong's two-run single after the first two hitters had reached via a leadoff walk and a single to start the inning.
The Lions actually added to their 2-1 lead with what seemed to be an insurance run in the top of the seventh, when Kao Chih-kang's pinch-hit double knocked in Chen to make it 3-1 in favor of the visitors before the Bulls responded with a run in the bottom of the inning to set the stage for the game-turning rally in the eighth.
Gonzalez was credited with the win, his eighth of the year, for holding the Lions to three runs on five hits over eight innings, despite trailing the Lions for most of the game.
Suffering the loss was Lin Yueh-ping, who blew his first save of the year in six chances with the three-run eighth that cost fellow starter Pan the win.
Pan left the game with a 3-2 lead after the seventh, in position for his eighth win of the season.

Juan Uribe homered and had five RBIs as the Chicago White Sox beat the Chicago Cubs 6-2 on Friday after the two central combatants in a brawl earlier this season chatted and shook hands.
Cubs catcher Michael Barrett apparently apologized to A.J. Pierzynski in the outfield before the game and the two were seen shaking hands. Barrett punched Pierzynski in the jaw after the White Sox catcher ran him over at the plate on May 20. Barrett returned on Friday from the resulting 10-game suspension.
Uribe had a two-run, bases-loaded single in the first, a run-scoring double in the third and a two-run homer off reliever Roberto Novoa in the eighth.
The White Sox jumped on Sean Marshall (4-7) for three first-inning runs but the Cubs got two back in the bottom half against Jon Garland (7-3), who went six innings for the win.
Back-to-back, two-out doubles by Joe Crede and Uribe made it 4-2 in the third.

Four-time NBA all-star DeMarcus Cousins arrived in Taiwan with his family early yesterday to finish his renewed contract with the Taiwan Beer Leopards in the T1 League. Cousins initially played a four-game contract with the Leopards in January. On March 18, the Taoyuan-based team announced that Cousins had renewed his contract. “Hi what’s up Leopard fans, I’m back. Revelations of positive doping tests for nearly two dozen Chinese swimmers that went unpunished sparked an intense flurry of accusations and legal threats between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the head of the US drug-fighting organization, who has long been one of WADA’s fiercest critics. WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The
Taiwanese judoka Yang Yung-wei on Saturday won silver in the men’s under-60kg category at the Asian Judo Championships in Hong Kong. Nicknamed the “judo heartthrob” in Taiwan, the Olympic silver-medalist missed out on his first Asian Championships gold when he lost to Japanese judoka Taiki Nakamura in the finals. Yang defeated three opponents on Saturday to reach the final after receiving a bye through the round of 32. He first topped Laotian Soukphaxay Sithisane in the round of 16 with two seoi nage (over-the-shoulder throws), then ousted Indian Vijay Kumar Yadav in the quarter-finals with his signature ude hishigi sankaku gatame (triangular armlock). Rafael Nadal on Wednesday said the upcoming French Open would be the moment to “give everything and die” on the court after his comeback from injury in Barcelona was curtailed by Alex de Minaur. The 22-time Grand Slam title winner, back playing this week after three months on the sidelines, battled well, but eventually crumbled 7-5, 6-1 against the world No. 11 from Australia in the second round. Nadal, 37, who missed virtually all of last season, is hoping to compete at the French Open next month where he is the record 14-time champion. The Spaniard said the clash with De Minaur was
