National Football League owners on Wednesday adopted resolutions that will curtail touchdown celebrations, with referees cracking down on excessive showmanship by several big-name players.
Owners voted 29-3 to limit celebrations after touchdowns anywhere on the field, drawing down the curtain on elaborate antics by such stars as Terrell Owens and Chad Johnson at the recommendation of the competition committee.
Referees can impose a 15-yard penalty on the ensuing kickoff for excessive celebrations, although simple acts such as spiking the ball, spins and dances will be allowed under the measures passed as owners concluded meetings in Orlando on Wednesday.
Jumping into the crowd also remains permitted, preserving the so-called "Lambeau Leap" for Green Bay Packers' fans at Lambeau Field.
Cincinnati's Johnson is known for end zone antics like proposing to a cheerleader and giving a football cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.
