Rusedski's serve overpowered Vik, who won his first game only after trailing 5-0 in the first set.
"At the beginning I just couldn't miss," Rusedski said. "He played a little better in the second set but from 4-4 I played some really good tennis and came up with the break."
To complete a bad day for the Czechs, eighth-seeded Tomas Berdych lost 6-4, 7-5 to Taylor Dent of the US, who notched his first win of the year in his fourth event.
