With the Pistons down 81-78, Billups hit four straight free throws to put Detroit ahead with 2:27 to go.
Richard Hamilton added 19 and Tayshaun Prince scored 16 for the Pistons. Gasol led the Grizzlies with 31 points and Mike Miller had 20.

At Milwaukee, Bobby Simmons scored 18 points and Milwaukee snapped a two-game losing streak with a win over Toronto.
Andrew Bogut had 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Jamaal Magloire had 13 points and 11 rebounds for Milwaukee. Michael Redd scored 15 points and Dan Gadzuric added 11.
Chris Bosh scored 21 points, Jalen Rose added 14 and Charlie Villanueva 13 for Toronto.
The Bucks, who never trailed, opened the second half with an 11-0 run that included a pair of easy layups by Magloire.

At Houston, Ricky Davis scored 26 points in his first game with Minnesota and and Kevin Garnett scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
Minnesota acquired Davis in a seven-player deal on Thursday and he wasted no time making an impact with his new team. He hit 10 of 18 shots, the last one a jumper from the wing with 1:08 left that put Minnesota up 92-88.
Tracy McGrady scored 19 points for Houston.
Clippers 105, Nuggets 87
At Denver, Elton Brand scored 33 points to lead the Los Angeles Clippers over Denver.
Sam Cassell added 25 points for Los Angeles and sparked a 22-6 third-quarter run that put the Clippers in control, and Chris Kaman had 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Carmelo Anthony scored 25 points for Denver.
Trail Blazers 88, Nets 83
At Portland, Oregon, Juan Dixon had 26 points and Ruben Patterson scored 14 for Portland's win over New Jersey.
The Atlantic Division-leading Nets, who were playing without top scorer Vince Carter, have lost the first three games of their four-game road trip. Richard Jefferson had 23 points.
The Blazers took advantage of Carter's absence, and jumped out to a 28-14 lead on Travis Outlaw's 23-foot jumper as the first quarter wound down.
Lakers 106, Warriors 105, OT
At Los Angeles, Kobe Bryant scored 25 of his 30 points in fourth quarter and overtime, leading the Los Angeles Lakers past Golden State for their second straight win.
It was the first game for Los Angeles since Bryant scored 81 points in a win over Toronto last Sunday for the second highest single-game total in league history.
On Friday, Bryant made two free throws with 7.1 seconds left in regulation to tie it at 94 and force overtime.
