Sidney Crosby scored the game-winning goal with 90 seconds left in overtime by steering a rebound past New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist, and also set up the first goal as the Pittsburgh Penguins won 4-3 on Saturday despite squandering three leads.
Crosby has three goals in two games and has five goals and four assists in four games since being snubbed for the Canadian Olympic team. The No. 1 draft pick has six goals in six games since being limited to one goal in his previous eight games and 19 goals in 37 games.
With Tomas Surovy scoring twice for the second consecutive game, the Penguins outshot the Rangers 37-17, two nights after being outshot 46-25 in a 6-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils.

But the Rangers bounced back from deficits of 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 with goals by Jaromir Jagr, Martin Rucinsky and Tyutin while going 3-of-8 on the power play.
Pittsburgh, also 3-of-8 on the power play, has won successive games for the first time since beating the Devils and Islanders on the road in early November.
Capitals 4, Flyers 3, SO
In Washington, Brian Willsie and Matt Pettinger scored in a shootout to lead Washington over Philadelphia.
Olie Kolzig stopped attempts by Michal Handzus and Peter Forsberg in the shootout, with Mike Richards netting for the Flyers. Willsie, the last player to shoot, beat goaltender Antero Niittymaki low and to the stick side to decide the game.
Rookie Alexander Ovechkin had a goal and an assist, and Dainius Zubrus and Willsie scored for the Capitals, who broke a two-game losing streak at the opening of a season-high six-game homestand. The victory also avenged an 8-1 loss at Philadelphia on Nov. 3.
Forsberg, Sami Kapanen and Jeff Carter scored for the Flyers, who played without leading goal scorer Simon Gagne and had their five-game winning streak snapped. They had also won six straight on the road and are now 4-1 on their franchise-record 11-game road trip.
Mighty Ducks 5, Blues 4, SO
In St. Louis, Chris Kunitz scored twice in regulation and had the only goal in a shootout to give Anaheim the victory.
Kunitz, who has six goals and 11 points in 26 games, got one of his scores during a two-goal, 10-second flurry that tied a franchise record in the first period.
Anaheim scored an unusual goal in the second period when St. Louis' Dean McAmmond's pass to the point went into an empty net after sailing the length of the ice. Vitaly Vishnevski, the last Ducks' player to touch the puck, was credited with the goal.
Andy McDonald also scored for Anaheim.
The Blues scored three of their goals on the power play, including scores by Doug Weight and Mike Sillinger in the third to tie it. Weight also had two assists.
McAmmond and Jamal Mayers added goals for the Blues.
Wild 4, Canucks 3
In St. Paul, Minnesota, rookie Kurtis Foster had a goal and an assist to lead Minnesota to its sixth victory in eight games.
Foster, playing in his 20th game for the Wild after being recalled from Houston of the AHL on Nov. 17, scored his sixth goal of the season in the second period and set up Randy Robitaille's power-play goal in the third.
Todd White and Wes Walz also scored for Minnesota. The Wild had 37 shots on goal, their highest home total of the season. Matt Cooke, Sami Salo and Bryan Allen scored for the slumping Canucks, 1-3-3 in their last seven games.
Maple Leafs 6, Devils 3
At East Rutherford, New Jersey, Mariusz Czerkawski and Darcy Tucker scored 21 seconds apart in the second period to spark Toronto's win over Tampa Bay.
Mats Sundin, Jeff O'Neill, Tomas Kaberle and John Pohl also scored to help Toronto stretch its season-best winning streak to five.
New Jersey's Scott Gomez had his second career hat trick, two nights after scoring twice in a loss at Pittsburgh. Gomez beat Ed Belfour for his first career penalty-shot goal at 1:27 of the second period.
The Devils have lost five of their last six and 11 of 14. They are 2-5 since president and general manager Lou Lamoriello stepped behind the bench as interim coach following Larry Robinson's resignation.
Avalanche 5, Coyotes 2
At Glendale, Arizona, Ian Laperriere sparked Colorado's productive offense with two goals, and rookie Peter Budaj made 30 saves.
Pierre Turgeon, Milan Hejduk and Andrew Brunette also scored for the Avalanche, who won for only the fourth time in 11 games. Their last victory was a 7-4 win over Phoenix on Monday night. Geoff Sanderson and Denis Gauthier scored for Phoenix.
Hurricanes 5, Canadiens 3
At Raleigh, North Carolina, Rod Brind'Amour scored his second goal of the game with 1:52 left to lead Carolina past Montreal.
Cory Stillman, Erik Cole and Aaron Ward also scored for the Hurricanes, and Martin Gerber made 24 saves. Andrei Markov, Michael Ryder and Jan Bulis scored for the Canadiens.
Flames 6, Oilers 5
At Calgary, Alberta, Kristian Huselius scored with 1:15 left to give Calgray a win over Edmonton.
After Calgary captain Jarome Iginla won a faceoff in the Edmonton zone, Huselius fired a rising shot toward the net that hit Oilers defensemen Marc-Andre Bergeron and Chris Pronger and bounced behind stunned goalie Jussi Markkanen.
US track and field athletes have about four dozen pieces to choose from when assembling their uniforms at the Olympics. The one grabbing the most attention is a high-cut leotard that barely covers the bikini line and has triggered debate between those who think it is sexist and others who say they do not need the Internet to make sure they have good uniforms. Among those critical or laughing at the uniforms included Paralympian Femita Ayanbeku, sprinter Britton Wilson and even athletes from other countries such as Britain’s Abigail Irozuru, who wrote on social media: “Was ANY female athlete consulted in
Four-time NBA all-star DeMarcus Cousins arrived in Taiwan with his family early yesterday to finish his renewed contract with the Taiwan Beer Leopards in the T1 League. Cousins initially played a four-game contract with the Leopards in January. On March 18, the Taoyuan-based team announced that Cousins had renewed his contract. “Hi what’s up Leopard fans, I’m back. I’m excited to be back and can’t wait to join the team,” Cousins said in a video posted on the Leopard’s Facebook page. “Most of all, can’t wait to see you guys, the fans, next weekend. Former US Masters champion Zach Johnson was left embarrassed after a foul-mouthed response to ironic cheers from spectators after a triple bogey at Augusta National on Friday. Johnson, the 2007 Masters winner, missed the cut after his three-over-par round of 75 left him on seven-over 151 for 36 holes, his six on the par-three 12th playing a big role in his downfall. Television footage showed Johnson reacting to sarcastic cheers and applause when he tapped in for the triple bogey by yelling: “Oh fuck off.” Such a response would be considered bad form in any golf tournament, but is particularly out of keeping
The sacred flame for the Paris Olympics was lit yesterday in Olympia, Greece, the birthplace of the ancient Games, in a ceremony inspired by antiquity and marked by messages of hope amid multiple global crises. “In ancient times, the Olympic Games brought together the Greek city states, even — and in particular — during times of war and conflict,” International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach said. “Today, the Olympic Games are the only event that brings the entire world together in peaceful competition. Then as now, the Olympic athletes are sending this powerful message — yes, it is possible to compete fiercely
