Mike York scored the tiebreaking goal with 3:57 remaining and the New York Islanders beat the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 Sunday.

York slammed in the rebound of Jason Blake's shot from the bottom of the left circle for the winning goal. Alexei Yashin also scored for New York, which got 35 saves from Rick DiPietro.

Mathieu Schneider scored for the Red Wings, who have lost two straight -- both at home.

The Islanders (13-12-1) improved to 8-7 on the road. New York has won five of six away from Long Island but has dropped three straight at home in between.

Jim Howard stopped 26 shots for Detroit.

Sabres 6, Avalanche 4

At Denver, Derek Roy pushed the puck past Peter Budaj with 2:27 left to lift Buffalo after Colorado had rallied from three goals down to tie.

Former Avs star Chris Drury added an empty-net goal with 3 seconds left to seal Buffalo's ninth win in 11 games.

Colorado tied it 4-4 when Marek Svatos scored on his first career penalty shot with 11:09 left.

It marked the second straight bad game for Avs goalie David Aebischer, who let four of the 16 shots he faced pass.

Jochen Hecht had a short-handed goal, and Jason Pominville, Paul Gaustad and Mike Grier also scored for Buffalo.

Colorado's other goals were scored by Karlis Skrastins, Rob Blake and Alex Tanguay.

Canucks 5, Bruins 2

At Vancouver, British Columbia, Brendan Morrison and Ryan Kesler scored 32 seconds apart to break open a tie game in the third period and lift Vancouver over Boston.

Daniel Sedin added his second goal of the game on a power play with 1:47 left as the Canucks improved to 12-1 at home.

Trevor Linden and Sedin staked Vancouver a 2-0 lead in the first period, but Boston tied it in the second before Alexei Isbister's four-minute penalty for high-sticking allowed the Canucks to go back in front on the power play.

Brad Isbister and newcomer Marco Sturm scored for the Bruins, who lost for the first time in three games since trading captain Joe Thornton to San Jose on Wednesday.
