Shaq starts season with ankle sprain

Darius Miles had 13 points to lead Portland, which opened the season Wednesday with a four-point loss at Minnesota.

Portland's Sebastian Telfair finished with five points and three assists.

Jazz 91, Warriors 85

At Oakland, California, Mehmet Okur had 23 points and 14 rebounds and Utah capitalized on the absence of Golden State point guard Baron Davis.

Okur scored 19 points in the second half and Matt Harpring added 15 points for the Jazz, who have two impressive season-opening victories despite playing without forward Carlos Boozer, who's nursing a strained hamstring. The Jazz won despite making just one field goal over the final 6:54 -- rookie Deron Williams' jumper with 4:43 to play.

Jason Richardson and Derek Fisher each scored 18 points for the Warriors, who were a bit lost without Davis, who sat out to rest his strained hamstring.

Timberwolves 102, OT

At Seattle, Ray Allen scored 11 of his 32 points in overtime for Seattle.

Allen was 7-for-24 from the field in regulation, but went 3-for-4 in overtime, including two 3-pointers, and scored all but two of Seattle's points in the extra five minutes.

Rashard Lewis added 19 points for Seattle, which went 33-for-36 from the free throw line.

Kevin Garnett led the Timberwolves with 23 points. Luke Ridnour and Nick Collison each added 10 points for Seattle, while Marko Jaric had 20 for Minnesota.

Clippers 92, Hawks 77

At Los Angeles, Cuttino Mobley scored 19 points and reserve James Singleton had 13 points and 13 rebounds as the Los Angeles Clippers won their home opener.

Chris Wilcox scored 14 points for the Clippers, and Sam Cassell and Elton Brand each added 12.

Salim Stoudamire topped Atlanta with 15 points, while Zaza Pachulia had 13 and Joe Johnson 10.

Mobley, who signed a five-year, US$42 million free agent deal during the offseason, led the Clippers to their second win to begin the season.
