Tottenham restricts Manchester United as Arsenal triumphs

Tottenham Manchester United to a 1-1 draw in the Premier League on Saturday, while Arsenal missed a bizarre penalty in its 1-0 win over Manchester City.

The draw at Old Trafford continued Tottenham's best ever start to a Premier League season. Charlton, Tottenham and Wigan all have 19 points, eight points behind leader Chelsea, which plays Sunday. Manchester United has 18, Manchester City 17 and Arsenal 16.

At Old Trafford, Manchester United took the lead after seven minutes when Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson dropped a Ruud van Nistelrooy header and Mikael Silvestre kicked it into the goal.

Jermaine Jenas leveled in the 72nd minute with a free kick that curled into the top corner.

"I think today was probably a fair result," Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said. "We cannot do anything about Chelsea, all we can do is concentrate on our own results. We have to collect as many points as we can and try to stay as close as possible."

Tottenham won at Old Trafford since the Premier League began in 1992. Its last win at Old Trafford was in 1989.

Arsenal back from its 2-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion last week to beat Manchester City.

Robert Pires scored on a 61st minute penalty after Thierry Henry had been brought down, then squandered the chance to make it 2-0 with 15 minutes left.

Arsenal been awarded another penalty but instead of kicking the ball toward the net, Pires ran up then weakly passed it to Henry. However, the Frenchman failed to connect with the ball. Referee Mike Riley then awarded a free kick to Manchester City.

"Robert came to me after the game, telling me he was sorry and that he had made a big mistake," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said.

Hearts top of the Scottish Premier League with a 2-0 win at Dunfermline, extending its unbeaten run to 11 matches on the day manager George Burley resigned.

Rudi Skacel and Michal Pospisil scored to give Hearts 29 points, six more than Celtic. Hearts captain Steven Pressley was shown a red card in the 89th minute for pulling back Jamie McCunnie.

Hearts John McGlynn took charge of Saturday's match. The club said in a statement that Burley left because of "irreconcilable differences."
