Offensively for the Bulls, game-MVP Chang Jien-ming broke a recent 3-for-25 batting slump with two extra-base hits off Wright, the first of which a triple down the first base line in the fourth inning and the second down the third base line for a standup double in the sixth inning.

Upcoming games

With just two games separating the top four squads of the league in the latest standings and a new playoff format that allots for an extra team (three) in the postseason, every one of the remaining dozen-or-so games for each team could play a significant role in terms of how the postseason will shape up.

The Lions can pull to within two games of the league-leading Bulls by taking Games 3 and 4 of the series against the Cobras at Luodong tonight and tomorrow afternoon.

As for the Bulls, a poor outing against archrival the Brother Elephants in their three-game set this week could cost them the first-place spot come next Monday. Game 1 was to be played yesterday in Hsinchuang, game 2 tonight, also in Hsinchuang, with Sunday 's series finale being played at Tienmu.

The Bears' three-game homestand against the sagging Chinatrust Whales in Kaohsiung yesterday, tomorrow and Sunday will be their best chance to make up some ground on the Bulls before they pay a visit to the Bulls in Taichung for four games next week.
