Hurst drives Elephants' win over Bears

SERIES OPENER The Elephants cooled off the red-hot Bears with a 6-3 victory, which put the Elephants just three games behind the league-leading Macoto Cobras

The battle between two top rookie pitchers, Lin En-yu of the Cobras and Lin Yueh-ping of the Lions, never lived up to its billing because of a five-run first by the serpents offense that knocked out Lin Yueh-ping before he could even complete the first inning.

While Lin Yueh-ping struggled devastatingly for the Lions, the Cobras' Lin En-yu turned in his best effort in nearly a month by tossing a three-hit, complete-game shutout for his team-high 12th victory. The clear front runner for this year's Rookie of the Year honor has won two in a row after dropping back-to-back decisions for the first time this season in a rather forgettable month of August.

Offensively for the serpents, every starter on the lineup collected at least one hit for the first time this year in a slugfest that included 17 hits and six drawn walks. Five of the Cobras batters had multi-hit games, led by third baseman Wilton Veras' 3-for-5 night with three RBIs.
