Greenland is offering several sport events in the Arctic that are aimed at taxing both professional and amateur sport enthusiasts to the extreme with the Greenland Adventure Race starting early next month -- a counterpart to the "Iron Man" triathlon in Hawaii.

Participants start on Sept. 7 with a 40km stretch on a kayak, travel 50km by mountain bike and then run another 90km.

Another event on Oct. 8, the Polar Circle Marathon, is aimed at testing jogging stamina to the utmost on a rugged route of ice, snow and steep inclines.

Last month, the Arctic Team Challenge saw teams compete on a 250km rugged route of glaciers and mountains. The route was divided into mountain bike, canoe and hiking trails.
