Taylor said that the size of the ramp has curtailed some of his moves because "you definitely have to be careful on this ramp."

Taylor has been riding professionally for six years, representing the Hoffman Bike team, named after the sport's major innovator, Matt Hoffman. He makes a living touring with his team virtually non-stop throughout August.

"I would say half of my money comes from the salary I get from the team, and then there's prize money and product endorsements such as my signature glove for 661," Taylor said.

SNOW in taipei

Snowboarding and skiing was definitely the main draw at Totally Board, although conditions were were uneven, causing an extra degree of difficulty.

"It was harder to get started and harder to stop," said Finnish free-style skier Mart Perendi. "You know, in the landing area, the snow was so deep you could get stuck and fall over."

Perendi said interest in free-style skiing was growing, though he has had difficulty finding sponsorships to become a pro, receiving only free poles and clothing from ski manufacturers.

Baptiste Collomb-Patton of France said walking to the top of the ski jump was like "being in a sauna."

The 28m-high outdoor snow slope was set up amid 34? C temperatures.

Some 70,000 spectators eventually flocked to the event by 7pm last evening.
