Close play dominated the rain-shortened series (two games) between the Chinatrust Whales and the Sinon Bulls last week as they each won a game by only one run.

Saturday's 2-1 final in favor of the Whales at Tienmu had the visiting Bulls striking first on a wild pitch by the Whales' starter Rafael Garcia that scored the runner from third in the top of the third inning.

Whales right fielder Huang Kwei-yu then drove an offering from Osvaldo Martinez (the Bulls' starter) deep into the left-field stands for a game-tying solo homer in the bottom of the same inning.

In the 10th inning, pinch hitter Tseng Han-chou knocked home the game-winning run with a sharp liner to right field off Bulls closer Hector Ramirez.

Dario Veras of the Whales got the win with a perfect 10th while Ramirez suffered his first defeat of the season.

Bulls 3, Whales 2

Sunday's 3-2 Bulls' victory had center fielder Tseng Hua-wei responsible for all three of his team's runs.

American lefty Jeff Andra had most of the Whales' lineup under control with seven strikeouts in as many innings of work.

Elephants 17, Cobras 5

Also playing to a 1-1 series split were the Brother Elephants and the Macoto Cobras as the Elephants piled on the runs against the serpents in Friday's 17-5 blowout.

Every hitter on the Elephants' starting lineup managed to collect at least one hit off the rag-armed Cobra staff.

Elephants starter Jonathan Hurst who allowed two runs on three hits over five innings for his first win of the year.

Cobras 4, Elephants 3

It took Cobra starter Lin Ying-jeh 11 strikeouts on 147 pitches to come up with a 4-3 lead before skipper Kuo Tai-yuan decided to call on his bullpen specialist Lee Ming-jing two outs into the eighth to protect his team's narrow margin.

Lee would respond by retiring all of the Elephants hitters he saw to give Lin his first win of the season.
