Arsenal and Manchester United reached the English FA Cup semifinals on Saturday, gaining some consolation after being knocked out of the Champions League earlier in the week.

The Gunners beat Bolton 1-0 on Freddie Ljungberg's third-minute goal. Bolton played with only 10 men for the last 81 minutes after El Hadji Diouf was sent off for striking Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann.

Defending champion Manchester United piled it on at Southampton, winning 4-0 on goals by Roy Keane, Cristiano Ronaldo and two from Paul Scholes. Manchester United defeated the Saints 3-0 in a league game earlier this season.

Bayern Munich eliminated Arsenal from the Champions League, and AC Milan got the best of Manchester United.

"I think we showed a lot of guts today because after the Munich game we very low," Ljungberg said. "It took a lot of effort to stop thinking about the Munich game and starting think about this one."

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand sounded a similar note.

"We want to win everything," he said. "This season wasn't meant to be in other competitions, but hopefully this one will be."

John Hartson and Stilian Petrov each scored twice in Celtic's 6-0 rout of Dunfermline.

The victory at Celtic's Parkhead stadium moved the defending Scottish champions one point behind league-leading Rangers. Celtic has a game in hand.
