Last-placed Atalanta beat Serie A leader Juventus 2-0 and Siena stunned AS Roma 2-1 Friday in first-leg, third-round matches of the Italian Cup.
Also on Friday, Sampdoria scored two late goals to overcome second-division Torino 2-0 at Turin's Stadio delle Alpi.

The setbacks of La Juve and Roma, which started several second-tier players, seemed to indicate fading interest of the major clubs for the annual knockout tournament, which once awarded a berth in the European tournaments.
"If a place in the Champions League were at stake, no doubt that the interest for the Italian Cup would be boosted," Juventus coach Fabio Capello said.
At Bergamo, 19-year-old midfielder Andrea Lazzari scored two second-half goals to earn Atalanta a prestigious home win.
The Bergamo club, winless in 12 Serie A games, is last in the 20-team Italian league with seven points.
Lazzari, who was developed on Atalanta's junior teams, opened the scoring in the 58th minute after a save by Juventus goalkeeper Antonio Chimenti.
The midfieldcer was denied a goal by Chimenti in the 63rd, but Lazzari struck again with a shot just under the crossbar in the 75th.
Juventus, which has an 11-1-0 record and leads the Serie A by six points, played without regular strikers Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alessandro Del Piero and failed to score for the first time in the last 22 matches.
"At last we captured a long-sought win," Atalanta coach Andrea Mandorlini said. "It came on an important night. Juventus is very strong also when it fields reserve players."
At Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Tore Andre Flo scored twice on headers, including the winner in the 87th minute to lead Siena.
It was a further blow for AS Roma, which has been eliminated from the European Champions League and is in 15th place in the Serie A after finishing second to AC Milan last season.
Fans jeered Roma players following the unexpected home loss that added to five defeats in 12 league games.
Flo, often relegated to Siena's substitute bench, produced his best performance of the season, repeatedly troubling the Roma defense.
The Norwegian striker scored in the 37th with a close-range header and had one goal disallowed for a dubious offside in the 42nd before scoring the winner with three minutes remaining.
Defending champion Lyon drew 10-man Paris Saint-Germain 0-0 and extended its lead at the top of the French first division to four points on Friday.
Lyon, undefeated in the league since May, has 33 points after 15 rounds. Lille was second place with 29 points, and Auxerre third with 25.
In Friday's other match, teenager Jeremy Menez opened the scoring and Wilson Oruma and Araujo Ilan added further goals as Sochaux won 3-1 away to Monaco.
PSG's Colombia defender Mario Yepes was sent off by referee Alain Sars for a second yellow card after chopping down striker Sylvain Wiltord in the 23rd minute.
PSG coach Vahid Halilhodzic reacted furiously and was restrained by striker Pauleta as he shouted at Sars face to face. Sars expelled Halilhodzic and his assistant coach from the bench.
Against Marseille two weeks ago, defender Sylvain Armand was sent off in the first half but PSG went on to win 2-1.
Wiltord missed an early chance for Lyon when his shot was pushed away by Lionel Letizi and the visitors had most of the first-half play without creating further opportunities.
PSG pushed forward more at the start of the second half, and Reinaldo went close with a header over the crossbar. But, a man down, PSG lacked cohesion and Pauleta struggled to get into the match -- although the Portugal star almost won the match late.
Soccer's European body UEFA on Friday increased fines imposed on Sparta Prague and Seville for racist incidents.
Both clubs had challenged fines handed out by UEFA's control and disciplinary body on Oct. 7. The UEFA appeals body said the increases "strongly reinforced UEFA's determined stance against racism in European football."
The UEFA action comes with FIFA launching an inquiry into racist taunting of England's black players at Wednesday's friendly against Spain in Madrid.
The Spanish FA has sent a letter of apology to England after home fans made monkey noises whenever the players touched the ball but there are calls for FIFA to force Spain to play its next home games in empty stadiums.
Czech club Sparta Prague challenged a fine of SF50,000 (US$42,720) for repeated racist abuse by their supporters in their Champions League match against Lyon on Sept. 28.
Spanish club Seville appealed against a SF15,000 (US$12,800) fine for racist chanting and the setting off of fireworks in a UEFA Cup match against Portugal's Nacional club on Sept. 15.
Seville said it was impossible to detect the fireworks as fans smuggled them into the ground and the racial abuse was only from a small group.
Blues show promise
This season is the 50th anniversary of Chelsea's only league title triumph.
Now Jose Mourinho, the Blues coach who wasn't even born then, says he can finally smell success at Stamford Bridge.
"When I arrived, maybe because of the last few years, there was not a smell of victory about the place," Mourinho said on Friday with his team two points ahead of defending champion Arsenal in the championship race.
"You can smell success and belief in clubs and Chelsea was not one of these places. You go to AC Milan for example and open the door and you smell success because they win something every season."
So, it seems, does Mourinho.
The rising star of soccer coaching, 41-year-old Mourinho led FC Porto to a 2003 UEFA Cup triumph, back-to-back Portuguese titles and last season's Champions League.
A sumo star was born in Japan on Sunday when 24-year-old Takerufuji became the first wrestler in 110 years to win a top-division tournament on his debut, triumphing at the 15-day Spring Grand Sumo Tournament in Osaka despite injuring his ankle on the penultimate day. Takerufuji, whose injury had left him in a wheelchair outside the ring, shoved out the higher-ranked Gonoyama at the Edion Arena Osaka to the delight of the crowd, giving him an unassailable record of 13 wins and two losses to claim the Emperor’s Cup. “I did it just through willpower. I didn’t really know what was going

MLB on Friday announced a formal investigation into the scandal swirling around Shohei Ohtani and his former interpreter amid charges that the Los Angeles Dodgers superstar was the victim of “massive theft.” The Dodgers on Wednesday fired Ippei Mizuhara, Ohtani’s long-time interpreter and close friend, after Ohtani’s representatives alleged that the Japanese two-way star had been the victim of theft, which was reported to involve millions of dollars and link Mizuhara to a suspected illegal bookmaker in California. “Major League Baseball has been gathering information since we learned about the allegations involving Shohei Ohtani and Ippei Mizuhara from the news media,” MLB
