"I like every hole to be honest with you," Johnson said. "It's got everything. This golf course can suit anybody's game. You've got Hank Kuehne, who's playing well, and you've got Fred [Funk] who doesn't hit it very far, but he gets it out there."

And he's gets it where it counts. Funk, the most accurate driver on tour, treated the gallery to crisp shotmaking all afternoon. The only green he missed was his last one, and that cost him sole possession of the lead.

Pavin was coming off a career-best tying 62 on Thursday, but faltered early in the second round. He started on No. 10 and bogeyed his third hole out, then double-bogeyed No. 16 when his drive landed in the greenside pond. Pavin finished the day with a 2-over 72.

Coceres, a two-time tour winner, finished with four birdies and had no bogeys for a 66.

Eighty players made the cut at 1-over or better. Those heading home for the weekend include Fred Couples, Ryder Cup captain Hal Sutton and former tournament champ Nick Price.

Peter Jacobsen leads the tournament he helped bring to his home state.

Jacobsen shot an 6-under 66 Friday in the Tradition to move to 9 under, one stroke ahead of Bruce Lietzke, after two rounds of the Champions Tour's last major of the year.

Jacobsen was instrumental in relocating the Tradition to the Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club last year, but he wasn't able to play the inaugural event because at 49 he was too young.

Now, as a rookie on the Champions Tour, Jacobsen already has a major -- he won the US Senior Open in St. Louis.

"It feels right," he said after his round Friday. "It feels like that is what I should be doing."

Lietzke had a 67 for an 8-under heading into the 3rd round, where he'll be paired with Jacobsen.

"All I can do is react to Peter, and I know what he's like to play with on a golf course," Lietzke said. "He's outstanding."

D.A. Weibring was among five players at 6 under.

After Thursday's first round was soaked by frequent downpours, conditions were mostly sunny and dry on Friday.

Miguel Angel Jimenez led the BMW International Open by a stroke on Friday, while Fredrik Jacobson made a last-minute charge to win a Ryder Cup berth by firing the day's best 65.

Jimenez posted a 66 for a two-day total of 10-under-par 134 and has already cinched his second trip to the Ryder Cup.

Jacobson, the fourth highest ranked European player in the world, believed he deserved a place on the team to face the Americans in September regardless of his result this weekend. He trailed Jimenez by two strokes.

A stroke behind the was David Lynn, whith a 68 and Retief Goosen with a 69.
