North Light, the 7-2 joint favorite, galloped his rivals into submission in the Epsom Derby on Saturday to give jockey Kieren Fallon and trainer Michael Stoute back-to-back victories in the famous English classic.
Six-times champion Fallon utilized the colt's speed and stamina to hold off Godolphin's Rule of Law (20-1) by one-and-a-half lengths.
Third place in the 14-strong field went to Let the Lion Roar (14-1), with joint-favorite, Snow Ridge, bidding to give former champion Frankie Dettori his first Derby victory in 12 attempts, finishing seventh.
It was a remarkable classic double for the jockey and trainer who won the Derby a year ago on Kris Kin. It was also a second classic victory in the space of 24 hours for Fallon who captured the Epsom Oaks on Friday on Ouija Board.
"He was a horse I liked from his very first race," said Irishman Fallon, savoring his third Derby triumph following Oath (1999) and Kris Kin.
"He has a fantastic temperament, he carries himself so well and has done absolutely nothing but improve."
Stoute, winning his fourth Derby 23 years after his first with the ill-fated Shergar, was thrilled with North Light who was having only the fourth race of his life.
