Diego Maradona has demanded a Brazilian psychiatric clinic build a mini golf course for him if he opts to go there to continue his treatment for cocaine addiction.
"To build a mini golf course, which was a demand of his, [we need] 20 to 30 days," said Fernando de Souza Miguel, spokesman for the Master Mind Clinic in Jundai, outside Sao Paulo, on Thursday.
Clinic officials would travel to Argentina yesterday for a meeting with Maradona's family doctor to determine whether the former World Cup winner will move to Brazil for the second phase of his recovery following his heart trouble in April.
Maradona is now being treated at a psychiatric clinic in the suburbs of Buenos Aires where he was taken against his will by his family.
The 43-year-old former Argentina captain has spent most of the past four years living at a spa in Cuba where he has been undergoing a drugs rehabilitation program.
While on a visit to Argentina in April, he was rushed to hospital with a swollen heart and breathing problems and he spent two weeks in intensive care, including a week on an artificial respirator.
After a slow recovery, he suddenly discharged himself only to be seen playing golf hours later. Within days he was back in hospital with breathing problems.
He was then persuaded by his family and doctors to book into a clinic for psychiatric counselling and treatment, but up to now he has been making almost impossible demands in an apparent effort to stall the process.
