Luke Jackson scored all but two of Oregon's final 33 points, leading the Ducks back from 18 points down in the second half in a 77-72 overtime victory against Colorado in a first-round NIT game Wednesday night.
Jackson, who had 40 points overall, including 29 straight at one point, scored 14 in the last 4:47 of regulation, tying the game 61-61 on a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left. He followed that with 14 more in overtime, 11 from the free throw line.
David Harrison led the Buffaloes (18-11) with 26 points and 12 rebounds.
Oregon's rally began with a dunk off a steal by Jackson at the 15:57 mark to spark a 17-1 run. It erased a 48-30 deficit to pull within 49-47 with 7:57 to play.
Colorado, meanwhile, went almost 12 minutes between field goals, and the once hot-shooting Buffaloes missed on eight straight attempts before a putback by Harrison with six minutes left made it 52-47.
From there, Jackson took over for Oregon (16-12), making three 3-pointers and going 15-for-16 from the free throw line.
Colorado jumped to a 9-4 lead in the game's first three minutes, but fell behind 14-11 following a 10-2 Oregon run capped by a 3-pointer by Aaron Brooks.
But the Buffaloes answered by scoring 12 straight. They would extend their lead to 45-30 going into the break as Chris Copeland hit a pair of 3-pointers in the final 45 seconds.
Florida State 91,
Wichita State 84, 2OT
Tim Pickett scored 25 points to lead Florida State to a pair of comebacks in a 91-84 double-overtime victory over Wichita State in the first round of the NIT on Wednesday night.
Pickett hit three second-half 3-point shots to help the Seminoles (19-13) rally from a 14-point deficit.
Florida State, which snapped a five-game losing streak, also had to come back from six points down in the first overtime.
In the second overtime, Nate Johnson hit a 3-pointer with 4:03 left to give the Seminoles the lead for good. Florida State then made six straight free throws, while Wichita State (21-11) was just 1-of-5 from the field.
Iowa State 82, Georgia 74
Jackson Vroman scored 23 points, Curtis Stinson had 21 and Iowa State shot a school-record 74.4 percent in beating Georgia 82-74 Wednesday night in the first round of the NIT.
The Cyclones (18-12) were 17-for-21 from the field in the second half, but could not pull away until scoring 11 straight points to open a 68-56 lead with 3:37 left.
Oklahoma 70, LSU 61
Freshmen Brandon Foust and Drew Lavender combined for 34 points, and Johnnie Gilbert added 11 to lead Oklahoma past LSU 70-61 in the first round of the NIT on Wednesday night -- a rematch of the Sugar Bowl.
The Sooners, absent from the NCAA tournament for the first time in a decade, clinched their seventh consecutive 20-win season -- quite an accomplishment considering their undersized lineup and reliance on four freshman in the final part of the season.
Notre Dame 71, Purdue 59
Chris Quinn scored 21 points and Rick Cornett added a career-high 16 Wednesday night, leading Notre Dame to a 71-59 victory over Purdue in first round of the NIT.
The Boilermakers (17-14), who trailed 39-30 at halftime, used a 22-12 run to take a 52-51 lead in the second half. Notre Dame (18-12), which shot 50 percent in the first half, missed its first 10 shots after halftime.
Revelations of positive doping tests for nearly two dozen Chinese swimmers that went unpunished sparked an intense flurry of accusations and legal threats between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the head of the US drug-fighting organization, who has long been one of WADA’s fiercest critics. WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The
Taiwanese judoka Yang Yung-wei on Saturday won silver in the men’s under-60kg category at the Asian Judo Championships in Hong Kong. Nicknamed the “judo heartthrob” in Taiwan, the Olympic silver-medalist missed out on his first Asian Championships gold when he lost to Japanese judoka Taiki Nakamura in the finals. Yang defeated three opponents on Saturday to reach the final after receiving a bye through the round of 32. He first topped Laotian Soukphaxay Sithisane in the round of 16 with two seoi nage (over-the-shoulder throws), then ousted Indian Vijay Kumar Yadav in the quarter-finals with his signature ude hishigi sankaku gatame (triangular armlock). Rafael Nadal on Wednesday said the upcoming French Open would be the moment to “give everything and die” on the court after his comeback from injury in Barcelona was curtailed by Alex de Minaur. The 22-time Grand Slam title winner, back playing this week after three months on the sidelines, battled well, but eventually crumbled 7-5, 6-1 against the world No. 11 from Australia in the second round. Nadal, 37, who missed virtually all of last season, is hoping to compete at the French Open next month where he is the record 14-time champion. The Spaniard said the clash with De Minaur was
