Miikka Kiprusoff allowed only a fluke goal and Robyn Regehr broke a tie 6:25 into the third period on Sunday in the Calgary Flames' 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild.
Jarome Iginla scored his 29th goal for the Flames, who surpassed last season's victory total by earning their 30th win of the season.
"Everyone took the time to rest and to focus on the stretch of games from the All-Star game to the end of the season," Regehr said of the Flames, the fifth-place team in the Western Conference.
The game matched the NHL's top two goaltenders in saves percentage, and Kiprusoff stopped 15 shots to outdo Minnesota's Dwayne Roloson. Kiprusoff earned his third straight victory since returning last week after being out more than a month because of a strained knee.
"If you look at their chances, I bet you can count them on one hand," Minnesota's Brad Bombardir said. "I think you can count the chances we had on one hand, as well. It was a tight game."
Sergei Zholtok scored Minnesota's only goal, his sixth in six games.
Devils 3, Kings 2, OT
In East Rutherford, New Jersey, defenseman Paul Martin scored 3:53 into overtime, lifting the New Jersey Devils over the Los Angeles Kings.
The Stanley Cup champions have won two straight and they pulled within two points of Ottawa and Boston for fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
The Devils snapped a three-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over Carolina on Saturday.
Pavel Rosa and Tomas Zizka gave the Kings a 2-0 lead, but Sergei Brylin and Jamie Langenbrunner answered.
Capitals 4, Blackhawks 0
In Chicago, Olaf Kolzig stopped 38 shots for his second shutout this season and 33rd of his career to lead the Washington Capitals over the Chicago Blackhawks.
Peter Bondra and Stephen Peat scored 65 seconds apart early in the second period to give the Capitals a 2-0 lead. Matt Pettinger and Anson Carter added goals in the third to help Washington snap a three-game winless streak.
Craig Anderson made 29 saves for the Blackhawks, whose three-game winning streak ended.
Oilers 2, Predators 2
In Nashville, Tennessee, Andreas Johansson had a goal and an assist, both on power plays, in the Nashville Predators' tie with the Edmonton Oilers.
Four-time NBA all-star DeMarcus Cousins arrived in Taiwan with his family early yesterday to finish his renewed contract with the Taiwan Beer Leopards in the T1 League. Cousins initially played a four-game contract with the Leopards in January. On March 18, the Taoyuan-based team announced that Cousins had renewed his contract. “Hi what’s up Leopard fans, I’m back. I’m excited to be back and can’t wait to join the team,” Cousins said in a video posted on the Leopard’s Facebook page. “Most of all, can’t wait to see you guys, the fans, next weekend. Revelations of positive doping tests for nearly two dozen Chinese swimmers that went unpunished sparked an intense flurry of accusations and legal threats between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the head of the US drug-fighting organization, who has long been one of WADA’s fiercest critics. WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The
Taiwanese judoka Yang Yung-wei on Saturday won silver in the men’s under-60kg category at the Asian Judo Championships in Hong Kong. Nicknamed the “judo heartthrob” in Taiwan, the Olympic silver-medalist missed out on his first Asian Championships gold when he lost to Japanese judoka Taiki Nakamura in the finals. Yang defeated three opponents on Saturday to reach the final after receiving a bye through the round of 32. He first topped Laotian Soukphaxay Sithisane in the round of 16 with two seoi nage (over-the-shoulder throws), then ousted Indian Vijay Kumar Yadav in the quarter-finals with his signature ude hishigi sankaku gatame (triangular armlock). Rafael Nadal on Wednesday said the upcoming French Open would be the moment to “give everything and die” on the court after his comeback from injury in Barcelona was curtailed by Alex de Minaur. The 22-time Grand Slam title winner, back playing this week after three months on the sidelines, battled well, but eventually crumbled 7-5, 6-1 against the world No. 11 from Australia in the second round. Nadal, 37, who missed virtually all of last season, is hoping to compete at the French Open next month where he is the record 14-time champion. The Spaniard said the clash with De Minaur was
