Duke embarrasses Michigan State in their own stadium

AP , EAST LANSING, MICHIGAN

Shelden Williams scored 16 points Wednesday to lead No. 6 Duke to a 72-50 victory over No. 5 Michigan State in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.

Duke (4-1) took control of the game in the first half with a 20-2 run during which the Spartans committed 17 of their 20 turnovers.

The Blue Devils handed Michigan State (3-2) its most-lopsided loss at the Breslin Center since a 25-point setback against Minnesota in 1997, and just its fifth loss at home since the start of the 1998-1999 season.

Duke's J.J. Redick scored 13 points, Shavlik Randolph had 11 and Chris Duhon added 10 points and six assists. Chris Hill and Kelvin Torbert each scored eight points for Michigan State.

Duke shot 59.2 percent and limited Michigan State to 40 percent. The Blue Devils improved to 5-0 in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge, and the Spartans fell to 3-1.

In Rochester, New York, Hakim Warrick scored 27 points and Billy Edelin added 20 to lead the Orangemen to their 11th straight win over the Bonnies.

The game was played at Blue Cross Arena, the third time the upstate New York rivals have met in Rochester.

Gerry McNamara had 19 points, Josh Pace 11 and Craig Forth finished with eight points and a career-high 12 rebounds for the Orange (2-1).

No. 20 Purdue 76, Clemson 64

In West Lafayette, Indiana, Kenneth Lowe scored 24 points and Purdue, the only team that had never won a game in the five-year history of the ACC-Big Ten Challenge, beat Clemson.

The Boilermakers (5-0), off to their best start in six years and coming off an upset of then-No. 2 Duke, another ACC team, in the championship game of the Great Alaska Shootout last week, took control with an 18-4 run early in the first half.

Sharrod Ford had 12 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots for the Tigers (3-1).

No. 25 Oklahoma St. 83,

Texas-San Antonio 53

In Stillwater, Oklahoma, Tony Allen scored 18 of his 19 points during an eight-minute spurt that spanned halftime to spark the Cowboys.

Oklahoma State (4-0) had little trouble pulling away from the undersized Roadrunners and outscored them 46-6 in the paint.

LeRoy Hurd led the Roadrunners (1-4) with 17 points.

No. 17 Gonzaga 86,

Washington 62

In Seattle, Cory Violette scored 15 points while Tony Skinner and Blake Stepp each had 14 to lead Gonzaga.

The Bulldogs (4-1) won with steady defense, which only partly explained Washington's 31 percent shooting. The Huskies (3-1) couldn't make a field goal over a 15-minute span during a 39-6 Gonzaga run that spanned halftime.

Ronny Turiaf scored 12 points and Richard Fox had 12 rebounds as the Bulldogs held a 48-26 edge on the boards and shot 61 percent.
