Belfour keeps Thrashers at bay as Leafs take charge

Ed Belfour made 31 saves, allowing only Ilya Kovalchuk's NHL-leading 17th goal Thursday night in the Toronto Maple Leafs' 3-1 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers.

Kovalchuk with 1:26 left to bring the Thrashers within 2-1, but Owen Nolan scored his second goal of the game 27 seconds later to seal Toronto's third straight win -- matching a season-best streak.

Darcy Tucker had a goal and an assist for the Maple Leafs.

Atlanta, which had its franchise-best four-game winning streak snapped against Ottawa on Tuesday night, dropped its second straight at home.

Canucks 3, Senators 2, OT

In Ottawa, Markus Naslund scored 4:13 into overtime to lift Vancouver past Ottawa.

Vancouver's Dan Cloutier made 31 saves, including a pad stop to rob Zdeno Chara 1:50 into overtime, for his 100th NHL victory. Ottawa defenseman Chris Phillips hit the crossbar with less than a minute left in regulation.

The Canucks won their second straight after ending a five-game road losing streak Tuesday.

Vancouver a 2-0 lead when Peter Schaefer and Jason Spezza scored 51 seconds apart late in the second period.

Daniel Sedin and Mike Keane also scored for Vancouver.

Avalanche 6, Flames 5

In Calgary, Alberta, Derek Morris scored at 2:24 of overtime, helping Colorado snap a two-game losing streak.

Adam Foote, Milan Hejduk, Joe Sakic, Teemu Selanne and Travis Brigley also scored for the Avalanche, who rallied from 2-1 and 3-2 deficits before blowing leads of 4-3 and 5-4.

Andrew Ference scored at 11:53 of the third to tie it 5-5 and force overtime. Brigley scored at 5:55 to give Colorado a 5-4 lead.

Oleg Saprykin had two goals, and Shean Donovan and Jordan Leopold also scored for the Flames, who had won three straight.

Coyotes 6, Kings 4

In Phoenix, Ladislav Nagy scored a career-best three goals to lead Phoenix over Los Angeles.

Nagy also had an assist for a career-high four points.
