Kevin Weekes turned aside 28 shots for his second straight shutout, and Josef Vasicek and Bret Hedican scored first-period goals in the Carolina Hurricanes' 2-0 victory over the New York Islanders on Wednesday night.
Weekes earned his fourth shutout of the season and 17th career in lifting Carolina to its first win in six games (1-3-2).

The Islanders, who got 23 saves from Rick DiPietro, have lost four of five and six of eight. It was also their third home loss in 10 games.

In Buffalo, New York, Miroslav Satan scored two goals and Mika Noronen made 18 saves to lead Buffalo past Washington.
J.P. Dumont and Dmitri Kalinin each added a goal and an assist, and Ales Kotalik also scored for Buffalo, which snapped a two-game losing streak. Daniel Briere and Chris Drury each had two assists.
Robert Lang, who came into the game tied for the NHL lead in scoring, and Ivan Ciernik had goals for the Capitals. Washington played most of the game without Jaromir Jagr, who injured his groin in the first period and left after playing nearly seven minutes.
Red Wings 7, Oilers 1
In Detroit, Kris Draper scored twice, including one of Detroit's four power-play goals, against Edmonton.
Steve Yzerman and Brendan Shanahan each had a goal and an assist, and Darryl Bootland, Brett Hull and Steve Thomas scored the other Detroit goals in Yzerman's 1,400th NHL game.
Mathieu Schneider had three assists for the Red Wings, who held a 43-16 shots advantage.
It was Hull's 726th career goal, moving him within five of Marcel Dionne for third place on the NHL list. Wayne Gretzky (894) is first and Gordie Howe (801) is second. Radek Dvorak scored for Edmonton.
Flyers 1, Penguins 1
In Pittsburgh, Eric Chouinard scored off Pittsburgh goalie Sebastien Caron's misplay in the second period, and Philadelphia ran its unbeaten streak to 10 games.
Dick Tarnstrom put the Penguins up 1-0 in the final minute of the first period with only their 10th power-play goal in 20 games.
Philadelphia outshot Pittsburgh 20-3 during the third period and overtime and 39-20 overall.
The Flyers, 8-0-2 during their unbeaten streak, tied idle Vancouver for the overall NHL lead with 30 points but remained winless in two games against the last-place Penguins.
Only Washington (15 points) has fewer points than Pittsburgh's 16, but the Penguins have twice tied the Flyers.

In Sunrise, Florida, Mike Dunham made 37 saves in his return from injury, but allowed two goals to Florida's Olli Jokinen.
Dunham, who sat out the previous four games because of a groin injury, allowed three goals on 30 shots in his first game in 10 days. New York rallied from a 3-1 deficit with two goals in the second period.
Mark Messier gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead four minutes in with his 10th goal of the season. Eric Lindros and Boris Mironov also scored for New York.
Stars 3, Wild 1
In St. Paul, Minnesota, Bill Guerin scored two goals, and Dallas snapped a five-game road losing streak.
Marty Turco stopped 18 shots for the Stars, who hadn't won on the road since beating Columbus on Oct. 25. Dallas took a 2-1 lead midway through the second period on rookie Mathias Tjarnqvist's first NHL goal.
The Wild were held to just three shots in the third period as they tried for the tying goal. They took a 1-0 lead on Jason Wiemer's second goal of the season.
Predators 4, Blue Jackets 2
In Nashville, Tennessee, Scott Walker scored two goals, one on a power play and one when Nashville was short-handed to lead the host Predators.
The Blue Jackets, winless on the road this season, struck first when Rick Nash scored just 1:44 in. Adam Hall and Vladimir Orszagh added goals for the Predators, who had 12 shots in a scoreless second period.
