Andriy Shevchenko showed he's still the man for the big occasion, scoring the deciding goal Friday as Champions League winners AC Milan beat FC Porto 1-0 to clinch the European Supercup for the fourth time in its history.
Shevchenko, whose calmly struck spot-kick defeated Juventus last May in the Champions League final penalty shoot-out, pounced in the tenth minute of a high-tempo match at Stade Louis II stadium.
Drifting into the penalty area, Ukraine striker Shevchenko timed his jump perfectly to meet midfielder Rui Costa's pinpoint cross from the right and place a firm header past Porto goalkeeper Vitor Baia.

"What can you say about a player like Shevchenko?" Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti said. "He has proved time and again what a great player he is. He is the complete striker."
Milan's triumph means it joins Spanish giant Real Madrid in having won the most European trophies -- both have 15 titles in all competitions.
"With this victory, tonight, we are among the most successful teams in the world," the Milan coach said.

Porto, which won last season's UEFA Cup by defeating Glasgow Celtic 3-2, was largely dominated and could have lost by a heavier margin.
Filippo Inzaghi, Shevchenko's strike partner, was lively throughout but missed good chances in each half.
In the 32nd minute he fired wide after Costa's first-time pass put him clear on goal. Then, 12 minutes into the second half, the Italy international headed over from Shevchenko's excellent cross from the right.
Porto coach Jose Mourinho complained that English referee Graham Barber favored the Italians when, in his opinion, the referee overlooked a second-half foul by Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf.
"Seedorf should have been sent off, but he wasn't because the referee decided not to show him a second yellow card," Mourinho said.
"This was an inexplicable decision. Maybe Milan is more important in soccer's hierarchy," the Porto coach said. "If this was a Portuguese player, I ask myself, 'Would he have made the same decision?'"
Portugal international Costa, who had an outstanding match, should have increased Milan's lead in the 60th minute but lifted his shot over the crossbar from 6m.
Porto exerted heavy pressure at times during the second half, but its lack of composure in front of goal meant Milan goalkeeper Dida was hardly tested.
With 20 minutes remaining, Porto substitute Edgaras Jankauskas slipped and fell over when attempting to sweep the ball in from 8m.
Maurinho found an unusual explanation for Jankauskas' miss.
"The field was unacceptable, and he could not stay on his feet properly. We were not happy about this."
In the 75th minute, Inzaghi burst into the penalty area and seemed favorite to score, only for Baia to deny him with an excellent save.
In the closing stages, Jankauskas hit a fifth swerving shot narrowly wide of Dida's post as the Portuguese pressed for an equalizer. The goalkeeper then made a smart save from Porto substitute Jose Bosingwa when his low shot appeared to be heading into the corner of the net.
US track and field athletes have about four dozen pieces to choose from when assembling their uniforms at the Olympics. The one grabbing the most attention is a high-cut leotard that barely covers the bikini line and has triggered debate between those who think it is sexist and others who say they do not need the Internet to make sure they have good uniforms. Among those critical or laughing at the uniforms included Paralympian Femita Ayanbeku, sprinter Britton Wilson and even athletes from other countries such as Britain’s Abigail Irozuru, who wrote on social media: “Was ANY female athlete consulted in
Four-time NBA all-star DeMarcus Cousins arrived in Taiwan with his family early yesterday to finish his renewed contract with the Taiwan Beer Leopards in the T1 League. Cousins initially played a four-game contract with the Leopards in January. On March 18, the Taoyuan-based team announced that Cousins had renewed his contract. “Hi what’s up Leopard fans, I’m back. I’m excited to be back and can’t wait to join the team,” Cousins said in a video posted on the Leopard’s Facebook page. “Most of all, can’t wait to see you guys, the fans, next weekend. So make sure you come out and support the Beer
Former US Masters champion Zach Johnson was left embarrassed after a foul-mouthed response to ironic cheers from spectators after a triple bogey at Augusta National on Friday. Johnson, the 2007 Masters winner, missed the cut after his three-over-par round of 75 left him on seven-over 151 for 36 holes, his six on the par-three 12th playing a big role in his downfall. Television footage showed Johnson reacting to sarcastic cheers and applause when he tapped in for the triple bogey by yelling: “Oh fuck off.” Such a response would be considered bad form in any golf tournament, but is particularly out of keeping
The sacred flame for the Paris Olympics was lit yesterday in Olympia, Greece, the birthplace of the ancient Games, in a ceremony inspired by antiquity and marked by messages of hope amid multiple global crises. “In ancient times, the Olympic Games brought together the Greek city states, even — and in particular — during times of war and conflict,” International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach said. “Today, the Olympic Games are the only event that brings the entire world together in peaceful competition. Then as now, the Olympic athletes are sending this powerful message — yes, it is possible to compete fiercely
