Frank Thomas hit a mammoth grand slam against Roger Clemens, and the Chicago had six homers in a 13-2 victory Tuesday over the New York Yankees.
"It's very big," Thomas said. "Everybody's harping on how bad we are on the road."
Thomas homered high off the foul pole near the left-field upper deck, and Magglio Ordonez followed with the first of his two homers in the game between American League division leaders.
"If he continues to do what he's doing, he has a chance to be MVP if this team continues to roll like it is," Manuel said. "He has to be considered -- strongly considered."
Esteban Loaiza (17-6) improved to 6-1 since the All-Star break, allowing one hit in seven innings and leaving with an 11-0 lead. He tied Toronto's Roy Halladay for the AL lead in wins.

Doug Davis pitched a four-hitter Tuesday as the Milwaukee Brewers won their eighth straight game by defeating the Cincinnati Reds 7-1.
``When you have all four pitches working, it's easy to keep them off-balance,'' said Davis, who logged the fourth complete game of his career. ``My cut fastball was working for me, and I was able to follow up with changeups outside.''
Geoff Jenkins had a career high-tying four hits, including a two-run homer, as the Brewers extended their longest winning streak since a nine-game string in 1997. With a 56-75 record, Milwaukee matched its win total from last season.
Wes Helms also hit a two-run homer as the Brewers sent the Reds to their third straight loss.
Davis (1-0), who signed with Milwaukee in July as a minor league free agent, earned his first National League victory. He beat Dan Serafini (0-1), signed by the Reds out of the Mexican League.
