Yao suffers injury
Chinese basketball star Yao Ming will sit out exhibition games against the NBA All-Star team after breaking a bone above his left eye during practice, China's basketball association said yesterday. The Houston Rockets center received eight stitches above his eye after colliding with another player on Monday, the Xinhua News Agency and newspapers reported. News photos showed the 228cm Yao with a bloodied bandage on his left eyebrow. "Yao will miss a couple of the games, but we are not sure which ones," said a China Basketball Association official who would only give his surname, Xu. "He has to avoid getting sweat in the wound, which could lead to infection."
Police hunt for body
Investigators on foot and on horseback searched a gravel pit near the Brazos River on Tuesday for the body of missing Baylor basketball player Patrick Dennehy as authorities said a teammate admitted shooting the athlete. The teammate, Carlton Dotson, was charged with murder on Monday in Chestertown, Maryland, near his hometown. He was ordered held without bail on Tuesday, and his attorneys said they would oppose his transfer to Texas.
PSV wins Peace Cup
Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven overcame monsoon conditions and French champions Lyon to win the Peace Cup tournament 1-0 on Tuesday. But while PSV pocketed a first prize of US$2 million, Lyon's French international striker Sidney Govou was stretchered off in the 51st minute with a badly sprained right ankle. He was taken away for tests and although no fracture was detected the ankle will be scanned on his return to France today.
