Choisir, a 13-2 shot ridden by Johnny Murtagh, held off a late surge by Airwave to win the three-quarter mile sprint. Airwave, at 11-8, was second, while Baron's Pit, a 50-1 shot, was third, one length back. "This is just fantastic, the thrill of a lifetime," said Paul Perry, Choisir's trainer. Choisir became the first Australian horse to win at Royal Ascot when he beat the field in the King's Stead Stakes on Tuesday.
"He's just so speedy," said Murtagh. "He took me there all the way [Saturday], and when I got [nearly halfway through the race], I didn't think anyone could beat me. He just picked up, kept going. I thought Airwave was coming, but she wouldn't have got him today."
