In St. Louis, Kenny Lofton homered to extend his hitting streak to 26 games and Jeff Suppan (5-5) snapped his five-game losing streak as Pittsburgh beat St. Louis.
Lofton hit his sixth homer on the first pitch of the third from Garrett Stephenson (3-4) to match Boston's Nomar Garciaparra for the longest hitting streak in the major leagues this season.
Randall Simon added a two-run shot in the second and Aramis Ramirez was 3-for-3 to extend his hitting streak to 13 games for the Pirates, who have won four of five. Craig Wilson had a two-run double and Jeff Reboulet had a squeeze bunt in a three-run sixth.
Diamondbacks 8, Padres 3
In San Diego, in his first start since attacking a machine used to evaluate umpires, Curt Schilling (4-3) had a four-hit shutout when he left after Sean Burroughs' comebacker hit his pitching hand on the second out of the seventh. Ramon Vazquez also his a ball off Schilling's pitching hand on the first pitch of the game.
San Diego right-hander Brian Tollberg (0-1) made his first appearance following ligament replacement surgery last June 5. He started with four perfect innings but allowed Junior Spivey's RBI single and Rod Barajas' sacrifice fly in the fifth. Steve Finley made it 3-0 with an RBI single in the sixth off Jesse Orosco and the Diamondbacks broke open the game with a five-run seventh.
Giants 6, Rockies 2
In San Francisco, rookie Kurt Ainsworth (5-4) struck out a career-high eight in 6 2-3 innings, ending Colorado's five-game winning streak. Rich Aurilia homered and drove in two runs for San Francisco. Darren Oliver (2-4) allowed four runs and nine hits in six innings, and has won just one of his last six starts.
