Kim Clijsters regained the No. 2 ranking in the world when she beat Jennifer Capriati 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-4 on Saturday to set up a showdown against fellow Belgian Justine Henin-Hardenne in the final of the German Open.
The 19-year-old Clijsters will pass Venus Williams for the No. 2 when the new WTA rankings are released Monday. Clijsters lost the spot to the American following a five-week layoff. Serena Williams, Venus' younger sister, is the No. 1.
The top-seeded Belgian wasted four second-set match points but notched her first victory in four career matches against the seventh-ranked Capriati and took a measure of revenge for her loss to the American in the final of the 2001 French Open.
In Sunday's all-Belgian final of the US$1.224 million clay-court tournament, Clijsters will face the defending champion.
