Three-team race develops in Taiwan league play

By Paul Huang  /  CONTRIBUTING REPORTER

Round up

The Whales failed to extend its eight-game non-losing streak as they fell to the Bulls 3-6 and 6-13 in the first two games of the series.

A blown save by the normally-sure-handed closer Kuo-Lee Chien-fu (郭李建夫) cost the Whales the victory late in the game on Tuesday night in Hsinchu, while Wednesday's contest in Hsinchuang was a laugher by the fifth inning.

Unable to give up anymore ground, it is do-or-die for the Whales if they wish to remain in the running with the top two teams in the league.

Upcoming games

The remaining two contests between the Whales and the Bulls will be in Hsinchuang and Tienmu on Friday and Saturday. A pair of wins by the Whales will put them back into the race at the top of the standings.

The visit to Tainan by the rebounding Elephants against the hosting Lions yesterday, today and Sunday will prove to be entertaining as the Elephants put their four-game winning streak on the line against the powerful Lion lineup.

Players will be playing for pride in the three-game series in Kaohsiung between the Gida and Agan yesterday, tomorrow and Sunday, since the two former TML teams are virtually out of the race for the regular season title.
