The President Lions treated their home fans in Tainan to another slugfest as they made it two in a row against the First Securities Agan in a 12-0 shutout.
Rookie starting pitcher Pan Wei-luen (¼ï«ÂÛ) proved his worth as the Lions' No. 1 draft pick this year in his professional debut with seven shutout innings.
The Lion hitters also gave Pan plenty of offensive support, spotting him a 10-run cushion after just four innings.
In desperate need of at least two quality starting pitchers, the Agan could only watch and hope for pitching help from abroad, expected sometime this week.
After the game, the fans honored in a ceremony Lions center fielder Huang Kang-ling (¶À¥ÌÀM), nicknamed "Sugarcane," who stole the 200th base of his career.
Gida 6, Bulls 9
Also in desperate need of some pitching help were the Naluwan Gida in their third and final game of the series against the Sinon Bulls. The final score of 9-6 to the Bulls hid the lack of pitching talent in the Gida lineup.
After ace left-hander Huang Chin-chih (¶À´Ü´¼) pitched in Friday night's 3-1 series-opening loss, the Gida pitching staff allowed a further 23 runs in the following two games against an average Bulls lineup.
The Bulls, who thrashed the Gida 14-2 on Saturday night, jumped to a 5-0 lead after three innings last night. Though the Gida reduced the lead by two at the top of the fourth, the Bulls had stretched the lead to 9-2 by the end of the eighth.
With a comfortable seven-run lead, Bulls manager Chen Wei-chen (³¯«Â¦¨) decided to call reserve pitcher Yang Ren-ming (·¨¤¯©ú) to the mound for some game experience.
The right-hander nearly blew the lead as he gave up two runs and loaded the bases at the top of the ninth, before being relieved by ace closer Ramon Morel.
Morel gave up two more runs that were charged against Yang, but got the much-needed final two outs for his second save of the season.
