Taiwan will not be deterred by Beijing's continual interference in its attempts to host international sporting events, the Chairman of National Council of Physical Fitness and SportsLin Deh-fu (林德福) has said.
Commenting on Kaohsiung City's failure to be awarded the right to host the 2007 World Universiade, Lin said that Beijing has always been the major obstacle for Taiwan's bids to host international sporting events by injecting politics into the equation.
This time around was no exception, Lin said, noting that Beijing sent ministerial-level officials to the International University Sports Federation (FISU) meeting held earlier this week in Trieste, Italy to lobby for Bangkok to host the 2007 Universiade.
Kaohsiung lost to Bangkok by a single ballot in the second round of voting among FISU Executive Committee members.
