Rookie Hossa leads the Canadiens

In Montreal, rookie Marcel Hossa had his first career two-goal game and Jose Theodore made 26 saves to lead Montreal 4-2 over Calgary for its second win in three home games.

Hossa, who has five goals in four games since being recalled from the minors, scored a power-play goal in the first before adding his second of the game with 6:35 remaining in the third.

Jan Bulis and Donald Audette also scored for Montreal.

Penguins 2, Bruins 1

Jan Hrdina scored the game-winning goal with 5:58 remaining and Sebastien Caron made 31 saves to lead the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 2-1 victory over the Boston Bruins on Monday.

Hrdina of the Czech Republic scored his 14th goal when Russian Alexei Kovalev fed him a pass coming out of the corner that he wristed past goalie Steve Shields. The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for the Penguins and a four-game losing streak against Boston.

Mario Lemieux returned to the Penguins lineup after missing three games with a strained groin. He played six shifts in the first period, but did not return after that.

Rangers 5, Maple Leafs 1

In New York, Petr Nedved scored three goals, and Eric Lindros had a goal and assist for the New York Rangers, who beat Toronto to claim two consecutive games for the first time since Dec. 1-3.

Nedved has five goals in two games after scoring twice Saturday in Pittsburgh, his first game back after missing four because of a hip injury. Darius Kasparaitis added a goal for the Rangers.

Thrashers 7, Flyers 4

In Philadelphia, Dany Heatley scored three goals and Marc Savard added a goal and two assists as Atlanta snapped Philadelphia's six-game winning streak.

Vyacheslav Kozlov, Jeff Odgers, and Lubos Bartecko also scored for the Thrashers, who entered the game with the NHL's fewest wins (11), fewest points (28), and fewest road victories (five). But they matched their highest scoring output of the season.

It was the first career hat trick for Heatley, last year's NHL rookie of the year.

Capitals 4, Islanders 3, OT

In Washington, Jaromir Jagr scored two goals, including the winner with 36.4 seconds to play in overtime to give Washington a win over the New York Islanders.

Devils 6, Panthers 2

East Rutherford, Michael Rupp celebrated his 23rd birthday by scoring twice in his first NHL game as New Jersey beat Florida.

Jeff Friesen scored twice in a 26-second span in a big four-goal second period as the Devils extended their unbeaten streak to a season-high four games (3-0-1).

Red Wings 5, Blackhawks 4, OT

In Detroit, Nicklas Lidstrom scored his second goal 47 seconds into overtime to give Detroit a win over Chicago.

The defending Stanley Cup champions beat Chicago at home for the first time in 10 meetings. Chicago's last loss in Detroit was April 2, 1999.

Brendan Shanahan and Sergei Fedorov assisted on the game-winning goal, which started with a three-on-two rush. Fedorov had three assists.

Oilers 8, Blue Jackets 5

In Edmonton, Alberta, Georges Laraque and Todd Marchant each scored twice, and Ryan Smyth had a goal and three assists as Edmonton beat Columbus.

Laraque scored both of his goals in the second period when the Oilers scored four goals and took a 6-4 lead.

Kings 3, Sharks 2, OT

In Los Angeles, Jason Allison scored on a power play with 1:10 left in overtime as the Los Angeles Kings ended a five-game home losing streak.
