Jeff O'Neill scored the only goal with 8:32 to play and Kevin Weekes made 28 saves for the shutout to lead the Carolina Hurricanes to a 1-0 victory over the Dallas Stars Sunday.

Ron Francis assisted on O'Neill's goal, giving him 1,200 assists in his NHL career. Only Wayne Gretzky with 1,963 has more assists than Francis, who has played a total of 1,604 games.

Weekes picked up his second shutout of the season and the 10th of his career against the NHL's highest-scoring team. It was his third game back in the lineup after missing three weeks with a concussion.

"There were a few [shots] I didn't see," Weekes told reporters. "Sometimes you're lucky and blessed to be in the right position."

"He was big, so solid in the net," said Carolina coach Paul Maurice. "It looked like he never missed a beat."

Dallas is now winless in three games (0-2-1), all played without captain Mike Modano, out with a concussion. The Hurricanes have won two in a row to move into a tie with Tampa Bay for the Southeast Division lead.

Marty Turco made 25 saves in goal for the Stars.

Blackhawks 3, Kings 1

In Chicago, Jocelyn Thibault made 24 stops as the Blackhawks won their third consecutive game by downing the Los Angeles Kings 3-1.

Sergei Berezin, Kyle Calder and Eric Daze netted as the Hawks improved to 12-5-1-0 at home.

Erik Rasmussen's goal four minutes into the third period spoiled Thibault's shutout attempt. Felix Potvin made 17 saves for the Kings.

In Anaheim, Jean-Sebastien Gig-uere posted his fourth shutout in seven games as the Mighty Ducks blanked the Phoenix Coyotes 4-0.

Giguere made 24 saves to earn his fifth shutout of the season and the 13th of his career as Anaheim ended Phoenix's three-game unbeaten streak.
