Trevor Linden's shorthanded goal in the third period was the game-winner as the red-hot Vancouver Canucks hung on to edge the Minnesota Wild 2-1 in National Hockey League action on Monday.
Linden's goal helped Vancouver win its seventh straight game, tying a club record established in 1989, while moving the Canucks to within two points of the Wild in the Northwest Division standings.
The goal was also Linden's 263rd as a Canuck, breaking the team mark he shared with Stan Smyl.
Henrik Sedin scored the other goal for the Canucks, while Dan Cloutier made 27 saves, many of them coming on nine Minnesota power plays.
The Wild failed to score with the extra man in the game. Andrew Brunette scored the lone goal for the Wild.
Rangers 3, Hurricanes 1
In New York, Dan Blackburn made 30 saves and a power play goal by Eric Lindros in the third period gave the Rangers a 3-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.
Lindros, who scored just two goals in his first 19 games this season, notched his second in four games to help the Rangers improve to (10-11-3-0).
Dale Purinton and Ronald Petrovicky scored the other New York goals. Glen Wesley had the lone goal for Carolina.
Oilers 5, Red Wings 4 (OT)
In Detroit, Jason Smith scored in overtime to give the Edmonton Oilers a 5-4 win over the Red Wings.
It was just the fourth win in Detroit in the past 12 years for the Oilers.
Steve Staios, Anson Carter, Ryan Smyth and Janne Niinimaa scored the other goals for Edmonton, while Jussi Markkanen made 30 saves.
Senators 2, Maple Leafs 0
In Ottawa, Patrick Lalime made 22 saves to lead the Senators to a 2-0 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
It was Lalime's first shutout of the season and 21st of his career as Ottawa improved to 11-6-2-0.
Mike Fisher and Peter Schaefer scored the Senators' goals.
Sharks 4, Blues 1
In St. Louis, Evgeni Nabokov made 32 saves to lead the San Jose Sharks past the St. Louis Blues 4-1.
Vincent Damphousse, Brad Stuart, Marco Sturm and Patrick Marleau scored for San Jose, which moved out of the Pacific Division basement with the win.
Al MacInnis with a power play goal with less than four minutes remaining spoiled Nabokov's shutout attempt.
Stars 5, Coyotes 1
In Dallas, Scott Young scored a pair of goals and Mike Modano added a goal and an assist to lead the Stars past the Phoenix Coyotes 5-1.
Bill Guerin and Scott Pellerin scored the other Dallas goals as the Stars improved to 8-0-0-1 at home and now have 33 points, tops in the NHL.
Pierre Turgeon added three assists for Dallas, 6-1-1 in its last eight games.
Deron Quint scored the lone goal for Phoenix (7-11-3-1).
Avalanche 1, Blackhawks 0
In Denver, David Aebischer made 26 saves as the Colorado Avalanche picked up a rare win at home, downing the Chicago Blackhawks 1-0.
